Ugh. I may contact Steam and ask for a refund. Talk about a first time for everything.

I already requested a refund on Friday evening, release day no less. Hundreds of other people posting on the Steam forums have done so too.

50 fucking dollars. Same cost as triple A titles out there. That's what's remarkable.

Let me know if you get any success with your refund request.

Will do. You guys will be the first to know.

I am sad now. The game looked promising for our space sim needs. I didn't get to play during the weekend so I am planning to go back today and see what is going on.

No wonder the game feels just fine with an xbox controller.

Don't despair...

Elite: D Alpha starting in a few weeks,
SC Alpha combat module also starting in a few weeks.

Things will get busy shortly.

(note) Even if alpha and mostly broken initially, they probably will be more satisfying than X: rebirth and you get to help in making them better to boot.

BF3 for me. Totally worth it to get in on the ground level for that one.

Guild Wars 2 for me. I remember going home after work and sleeping until right before midnight. I played until 7 a.m. before the inevitable launch window crash happened. Good times.

I pre-ordered FO:NV, and BL2 and those were a pre-orders I didn't regret, because I literally played them non-stop for weeks after I bought them. I also appreciated the pre-load on Steam so I could play them right at midnight.

Bioshock infinite on the other hand I've only played for about 5 or 6 six hours, so I could've waited for a sale on that one.

Another special feature, only 10 save slots, yep that's got PC game written all over it.
Nothing like trying to play a massive game with 10 saves.
After being slapped around by gamemakers for the last 5-6 years with their shitty console ports, I'm starting to think that having a PC for gaming is pointless.

to be fair, the game would never pass the "odious qc" (star citizen quote) of console makers.

I use a logitech gamepad occasionally on the PC.... For those ports where it makes sense.

However, I'd much rather use my trusty X52 HOTAS for flying and game/keyboard for everything else.

Savious See Profile should have taken delivery of his X52 Pro today. Maybe you can be buddies.

The Rebirth nexus is up. Now let's see what the modding community can do. I'm bookmarking this post so I can come back to it in a year and see what has been done. My guess is it'll be pretty amazing. The X fans are hardcore dedicated nerds.

no but that remark without a qualifier that qc also works for the consumer, struck me as odd. Especially at a time when a number of anticipated indie games come out half baked.
there is a positive side to walled gardens and gatekeepers and externally imposed qc. Apple earns it's 30% cut on 1 buck apps in my book. Sony and Xbox I am sure also work for their cut.

How do you explain all the shitty titles that get reviewed by Angry Joe at 0/10, 1/10 then? Most of them are console titles.

QC licensing as it stands is a money making scheme. It doesn't protect the consumer at all. Journalists like Angry Joe are the only actual line of defense that battles for the consumer.
Sony and MS only care about the profits and the impact a title could have on their brand. The road ends there.

Remember the Fez saga? The whiny drama queen that developed the game said he didn't have enough money to patch his game, so MS gave him a free patch to help him. Technically, does that not work in their favor better?

CR hates all the hoop jumping and bureaucracy that has taken over what used to be a technical and creative process. That's pretty much his stance AFAIK.

What happened? I don't particularly like Reddit.

Imho the whole PC vs console debate is ridiculous since a console IS A PC! It's a mobo with RAM and CPU and GPU in a custom case and custom OS.

I like Angry Joe very much and of course there are 0/10 games.

However they are 0/10 games that can be played through.

Odious QC isn't about whether a game is minimally good, it is about whether a game is at least minimally playable to the end so when you get it installed you can actually play it. I don't think the console QC departments have any particular opinion on the game itself, other than whether the buttons on the controller are called the right names, and there is the obligatory warning about not turning off the console while saving.

That is the trade off in a more open system, I guess. There are literally thousands of games PC owners get to play and mod that console owners do not because their devs don't have to jump through hoops...but some will be broken because, well, the devs don't have to jump through hoops. I still prefer the open system to the walled garden. Resisting the urge to preorder is the lesson here for me.

What happened? I don't particularly like Reddit.

• Random person posts a picture of a gaming PC to the shithole that is known as r/gaming
• r/gaming mod deletes post, noting that it wasn't specifically a gaming rig, and that "the person could use it to pay their taxes"
• r/pcmasterrace ("praise gaben, his holiness"; it's nothing but a 45,000 strong circlejerk sub) gets wind of this and bombards the r/gaming sub, doxxes the mod involved after the mod's unsavory views on PC gaming is made known, and the mod claims someone calls his local police department claiming to be him and saying he killed his girlfriend and has a bomb
• reddit admin react by banning hundreds of users and shutting down the r/pcmasterrace sub.
• For a couple days, the r/pcmasterrace users go into hyperdrive, spilling over into many other gaming subreddits--r/gaming was nothing but pages upon pages of passive aggressive "look at my quad Titan tax rig!" posts
• Reddit admins relent and re-open r/pcmasterrace

It was some pretty fun drama to watch. You would think Reddit admins would better understand the Streisand effect.

What a beautiful, beautiful game... wow.

Completely lied to, as in intentionally misled.

And yet, we never learn, do we?

You just summed up all of their games, well maybe except BtF which was a unique experience out of the box or CD case. I remember when it came out I had to order it from the UK it wasn't even for sale in NA.

I learned my lesson, I skipped TC and Prelude and let just say that I voiced my opinion on their site and was quickly censored and vowed that I would never give them another penny until they got their act together. At least this time they went with steamworks.

Any game that these Eggheads put out you have have to give them at least a year to fix.

I suppose you have to be a reddit convert to appreciate the drama in this chain of events but I can see how it was entertaining to watch.

The only Reddit drama Im intimately familar with is when Gawker doxxed this asshole that liked to publish all the world's most offensive stuff, including borderline child pornography.

Off topic, but their big drama du jour at the moment is their political subreddit mods getting together and deciding it was a good idea to start banning a bunch of domains whose content they didn't agree with:

I'm sorry to hear about all the bad experiences you guys have been dealing with on this game. That just sucks.

Hopefully you can all get your money refunded back if you're not happy. They should offer refunds if this game is as shitty as I'm learning it is. Sad.

I feel like it's almost bait and switch tactics. Game videos and images that are doctored in order to trick gamers into thinking their product is actually a refined and competent game. This reminded me of that debacle last year with that "DayZ" copy-cat job(piss poor at that). I can't remember what the shitty game was even called.

But anyways, it was complete and utter shit which was basically a direct clone or knock-off of the real Day Z mod. The developers tried to bank on the popularity of the real DayZ mod(which at the time needed some serious serious work itself) and they were able to then tout how their game fixed and added many of the hang up's gamers had with the real Day Z mod. This knock-off had been a total "copy and paste" job pulled together over a weekend or two and then it actually(!), somehow, passed Steam's "rigorous" testing phase and was then sold over Stream's robust digital delivery channel to easily millions and millions of gamers.

TONS and TONS of people got ripped off because they trusted Steam's reputation(not surprisingly) instead of the no-name, junk reputation developer of the actual game. That, too, was also a sad sad state of affairs as well.
