Re: [Internet] How much do you guys pay for internet?

I think that the answer is in hchen42's post...

"This is the rate my co-op board negotiated with TWC."

It seems that he or she lives in a complex or development that pays for basic TW services and you add what you need from them on top of that at prices that his co-op have negotiated with TW.

Would this actually work? Like I mean, if you threaten them to cancel would they actually give you lower price? Why is that?

It's a simple inequality, really. $29.95 > $0. Or, on an annual basis, $359.40 > $0. As has been written about several times on this Web site (BBR), Internet interconnect is ridiculously inexpensive, so the company's costs amount to outside plant repairs, electricity, a little bit for occasional upgrades, a little bit for the occasional tech support call, and the like...which when you add it all up, I'm going to guess on a per customer basis is a lot closer to the $30 than the $50, meaning roughly $20 pure profit.

oh, dude. Switch to FIOS...its so worth it. Ive had FIOS when in FL. Have TWC now in WI....not even a close match. FIOS is the best internet, TV service Ive ever had. TWC makes me want to cut the cord. Am a datacenter engineer so I tend to get the fast speeds anyways. But comparing what I paid for FIOS and TWC...pay way too much and get nothing but trouble with TWC

im a heavy streamer and an datacenter person. I use 15/2 and dont have any issues. If you do, Id drop down a level and spend the money saved on a better router or switch in the house.

Too much... $50+ for 15-1 service with "no promotions or specials" in my (CA) area. I'm almost ready to return to ATT, almost...

When I canceled my TWC service I had 50/5 for 49.95$ that is because I was actually billed for 30/5 service they wanted to lower it a little to keep me as a customer.

I guess they are simply trained if someone want's to cancel offer them a deal..

Um. $49.95 for 50/5 is pretty good to me. I guess I can ask them for $40 for 30/5 next year? I get it, but do you have to get to the right department to get the right deals?

You can ask, BUT unless that deal exists in the system you are not going to get it!

We're paying about $70 (excluding about $5 in taxes and fees) for 30/5 here in the Dallas area. After the recent 10% speed bump, it's more like 34/5.75. I own a modem so I don't pay equipment lease fees. We don't get any other TWC services, either.

I'm not sure whether this $70 rate is promotional or full price for the 30/5 tier. I hope it is full price, otherwise I would have to believe that TWC wants $80 a month or more for this speed, which is absurd.

It sounds about right for a single product customer.

$30/mo for Standard 15/1, and have my own Docsis2 modem, so no lease fee.

the reason I'm not paying $35 summer sale, or $40 regular prices is because my
Coop negotiated a deal 25 years ago with TWCable for an in building discount.
for that reason it's unlikely I'll change ISP's when FiOS finally serves my building.
( between an OTA antenna and Torrent/P2P, I have no use for CableTV service )

my area service is great, and i get over 15/1 low latency low packet drop rates.
( I do a lot of testing and line monitoring on a daily basis )
my only very minor gripe is they only have 4 channel Docsis3 bonding near here.
if they had 8 channel down bond, I'd have gone for the 30/5 service by now

How do you check how many down/up channels do you have? I am still using TWC's DOCSIS 2.0 modem, and can't seem to find it.

docsis2 only has one down 29mb/s service,

i just like the idea of 8 down to improve latency for gaming.

Both of my standard 15/1 Internet service ($54.99) and leased cable modem fee ($5.99) costs went up for a total cost of $60.98 according to yesterday's paper bill.

That sucks. Maybe you should buy your own modem and start using some tactics to lower the prices.

I live in a co-op apartment (co-op is like a condo in most area, but there are subtle differences). Verizon FIOS was trying to get into our building. Long story short, TWC is afraid that everyone in the apt would switch to Verizon, so they gave the residents a discount rate. I have double play package which comes to $68.xx ($67.xx if pay on-line). Before the discount, TWC was charging us $102.xx for double play. This rate is only valid this year.

Switch to fios as soon as your rate goes up or time warner simply after 1 year will keep it the same.

It's more. It's $85/mo normal around here or $60 under promo.

I wish.

I think TWC gave us that rate due to TWC "convinced" our board to disallow final FIOS installation(or delay it). I know Verizon has laid out FIOS into our basement. Now it's to get the rest to every units (115 units in a 16 story tall building). At our 2012 board meeting, residents were pushing the management to get FIOS hooked up. I think everyone was fed up with rate. When I first moved into the apartment in 2006, TWC was charging $64/month for double play; from 2006-2012, rate increased to $102!!

Verizon wanted the board to guarantee 100% subscription. I guess that spooked TWC. Eventually TWC gave us a new rate; hence I am paying about $68/month for double play (std tv, turbo internet, no modem fee).

In July I signed up for the $29.99 12 months deal. On my July bill it was $29.99

I was bored so looked at my Aug Bill, they basically took the deal away w/o telling me and charged me $39.99.

I spoke with the Billing Tech, and they said my deal expired so they changed me to the higher deal..WTF?

TWC - Maine
Service: basic internet only
Speed: 15/1 ..in theory.
Modem: mine
Price: Was steady at $51. Jumped to $54.99 last bill.
I haven't read this forum in a while and TWC didn't say why the bill spiked.

Your previous bill didn't say it? Mine (paper bill) did for cable services, but not the modem fee increase until this month's paper statement (never was told in advanced).
