Missing avatars when viewing in FirefoxI notice today that when I view posts, the avatars don't display in my Firefox browser. However when I use Opera or Chrome, they're visible as usual.
I'm allowing all scripting for the pages and haven't changed my Firefox browser or add-on configurations.
Any idea what I need to change to view the avatars? |

I disabled NoScript and AdBlocker and restarted the browser, but that didn't fix it. I checked my topic format and it looks fine; <center>

They show up fine for me, too (Fx22). Do you still not see them when you're logged out from the site? |

I don't see them when I'm logged in or out on Firefox. The only place I see user avatars in Firefox is when I'm in account settings. There, I see avatars in my profile preferences on the page where I format my pages and select my avatars. I also see others' avatars in the "I see People" configuration screen. Weirdness abounds ... |

Yep. I see them just fine. Perhaps my issue is limited to posts? (See my clarifying edit above - I see them in my account settings pages).
Note that the rest of the "I See People" information is not displayed either - only the user name which links ot their profiles where I can see their avatar displayed. |

It seems that the only place My FF isn't displaying avatars is with the forum posts made by users. |

Update (Thanks fourboxers for the help!) The avatars disappear when I zoom the browser view more than twice (Ctrl + ), and return when I shrink (Ctrl - ) or reset the view. I found that if I select "zoom text only" View/Zoom/check "View text only") the avatars remain even when text is zoomed very large. Hope this helps others! |

That's interesting... I just tried a 4x zoom, and the avatars just kept getting a little bigger each time until at 5x the uinfo [left] column vanished entirely (though I didn't resize my window either). When I maximize the window, 7x "disappears" the left column (but the avatars don't vanish before then). |

What you are seeing is the site CSS responding to the lack of pixels by removing the left hand margin and switching to succinct mode for forum posts. Basically it thinks you are on a narrow screen. Which if you zoom enough, you are. if you read this you'll start to appreciate the problem (that I have): » www.visionaustralia.org/ ··· ponsive-just to be clear(er): the worst situation is a combination of a not very wide screen AND browser zoom. For example with 1024 wide browser window, zooming past 120% will trigger the (still somewhat minor) removal of items and changing of look. But if your browser window is 1400 wide you have to head closer to a 200% zoom to get the same impact. |

Thanks for the explanation. I'm glad to know what's happening and that it's not a bug in my browser or the site. I like that the site fits the post text into the screen when zooming up to 5x zoom rather than having to use the horizontal scroll bar. Edit - I'm glad it's not me who has to design a multi-device compatible web site! I love it that I can zoom without overlapping text. |

well I can see the argument that for vision impaired you might not want the content to be simplified, but you might want the zoom.
In that case I might have to put in a "non responsive" cookie option that causes a cut out in the CSS responsible for simplifying the layout no matter what the screen width is. |

said by justin:well I can see the argument that for vision impaired you might not want the content to be simplified, but you might want the zoom. From what I can tell, unchecking the "zoom text only" option in Firefox provides a simplified post page without the avatar and profile text. Checking that option allows me to zoom everything on the post page without losing any content. Edit - BTW, I'm using an old 17" CRT monitor at 1024x768 resolution, so I bet zooming will be a little different on other size and resolution monitors. |
