Fido/Rogers mobile throttling/corruption/error and etc.

Hi,

I've been a customer of Fido mobile LTE Internet access in the area of Montreal (Anjou) for a couple of months with my trusty Galaxy Note 2 i317m. At few random times, Fido decided to throttle (or may be just some technical issue) my connection down to around 100 Kbps even if I had full signal, 4G or LTE. It usually lasts a couple of minutes and makes Internet almost useless. When everything is fine, I can easily reach 20Mbps/10Mbps and more.

Today, I've discovered a new behavior: updating my Google Play store apps was impossible as the downloaded update files ended up corrupted/invalid 95% of the time. When connected to WIFI, on my Teksavvy connection, my download goes smoothly.

Any idea what's going on?

Oh, thanks. I guess testing on a single ISP wasn't enough as different ISPs might have a different Google cache server to offer Play Store app updates.

I'll keep a lookout on this throttling issue then.

A new record:

Signal: 4G, 3 bars out of 4
Ping: 402ms
Download: 31kbps
Upload: 323kbps

Then it connected back to LTE...

Signal: LTE, 2 bars out of 4
Ping: 187ms
Download: 4809kbps
Upload: 593kbps

You think there is a way I could force my Galaxy Note 2 to stay on LTE and never switch back to 4G?

There is a way to force it to stay on LTE, but you'd completely lose voice, which uses 3G/2G.

Interesting, I don't use voice, I only use data. Care to share?

There's a number you can dial on the phone that'll take you to an option screen where you can pick which network it will connect to. I can't remember the number and I'm having issues finding a thread on it on XDA.

It's advanced settings though. You're even picking the LTE channel you want the phone to use.
