Re: Crapsavvy - Another slow night on cablethe mtrs provided by the people in the thread indicate an issue happening somewhere between TSI and Rogers's end. but it doesn't seem like a node issue at all. there was another thread too where people complained about latency and the same thing was being shown, packet loss happening after the Rogers hop into TSI. » Re: [Cable] Anyone lagging out today in the GTA?» Lagging real bad here in McNicoll POI |

We're looking into it.. Same sort of deal as we have seen before going aggregated.. Something going on between the nodes and the hand off to us. We have loads of capacity... The proble is that we have no visibility in there. Makes it difficult to find problems. |

for what it's worth, I think you're the only TPIA with multiple 10GE links so I wouldn't be surprised if Rogers is having issues with load balancing or that configuration. |

Ya, we saw similar problems on disaggregated. There was a time back when DuPont had 2 links that it looked way under capacity, but in fact links were maxing out below their rated speed. Look for flat tops on those nightly throughput graphs!! |

So.. We have had more than enough capacity all along on aggregated.. So, when did this start? Maybe that can help us find what event caused the beginning of it? |

Look for flat tops on those nightly throughput graphs!! This was my thought as well. As I recall, the problem was the link from the CMTS to the TekSavvy equipment...something was severely limited there. Rogers can basically pull this crap any time and deny there's a problem, since TekSavvy can't prove it and Rogers can just pretend nothing's wrong. |

Personally this started about a month ago in my area .. and there are certainly still times where I can pull down some really great speed, but as soon as we roll into the evening hours my connection crawls. For comparison to last night at 9MB this was my speed test this morning. |

The evening timing means it's definitely a congestion issue. The big chunk of excess capacity on TekSavvy's network means it's happening before the data moves over to TSI's network. This means it's either local node congestion (You can test this by seeing if neighbours on Rogers are having a similar problem) or something similar to the Dupont issues a couple years ago, which is what I'm seriously starting to think we're seeing. |

My first post in this DS thread is on July 30th: » [Cable] Slower speeds during peak hours.Thatis when I first noticed slow downs at peak. I was going to try and report every night it happened but I've been really busy lately with a new job. So going on into the 3rd week now that I see slow downs. I noticed slowness on Monday night too, getting about 20~30Mbps. I tried a lot of things to reach max speed, but even allowing a download to open 30 threads I was hitting a 30Mbps wall. My line stats are the as posted in that support thread, there's nothing wrong RF wise with my cable connection. So something seems amiss somewhere along the Rogers-to-TSI path. I'll make sure I do some traceroutes and mtrs the next night I notice a slow down. |

Asking me about which POI or someone else?
I'm in London which is ATPIA now, iirc there are three headends in London? I'm on the one they call York I think. |

Sorry, yeah that was for you...if the problem is between Rogers and TSI, it's probably happening either at specific head-ends, or at York Mills where all the ATPIA data gets handed over. I kind of suspect the former, since I haven't detected the problem (on Dupont). |

I hadn't done any large downloads or streaming in the last week or so, so I can't say when this started. I first noticed it yesterday (August 13 2013) and reported it right away. The problem is ongoing today (August 14 2013). |

On Aug 12, I changed from DSL 6 to Cable 25. All was good until about 8pm last night and I was averaging 1.4 to 2.6 down, upload was not affected. Fwiw I'm up in n/w London near Hyde Park. |

i know nothing about connections really, but I was on the 28/1 for "who knows how long", came from rogers with the same package and now since I moved to the 35/3 package, I noticed that the internet is slow after 6-7pm till midnight 1AM...
I have kids so I hear it constantly... "dad is there something wrong with the internet"... then I do a speedtest and see that it shows like 9mb or lower on the download and with the 3 teenagers ... thats just not enough speed... and the problem with that is that they are switching to their phones and using their phone data and costing me more money... ughhhh!
prior to me switching to the 35/3 everything was rock solid for pretty much 2 years... i cant even remember down times... but since the switch I have had 3 downtimes in less then a month....
can I switch back?
im on the ottawa stlaurent internets |
|
|
Given how many people are saying this started around the time of the ATPIA switch, I wonder if Rogers is screwing up the transit from certain head ends to York Mills. It would explain why this started around the time of switchover, as well as why the problem seems to be localized to certain areas. |

can I switch back? no u cannot switch back I would deal with tsi tech support until resolved. if not resolved then u can try rogers for a month or 2 to see if problem exists and if it is rogers should fix it, another solution is try another isp like start and see if same problem exists edit: damn its nice to have choices, I few years ago you would of been stuck with rogers with no choice to use any1 else on their cable |

Hmmm, I'm Dupont and I know that when I went 150/10 it was fine for awhile initially (switched over late June). I know it's been happening for the past few weeks so there's a chance it could be related. |

My connection has definitely been either slow or inconsistent since the fibre cut in July. I don't recall the exact timeline, but that sounds about right. I have occasionally been able to achieve >100mbps down a few times in August, but it's not consistent like it was in June/early-July. |
