Re: New Data Caps

A lot of people think the slower DSL speeds are not as good, but it's been my experience that slower speeds that are consistent are MUCH better then "up to" high speeds that drop to a crawl and fluctuate wildly during normal use hours (evenings and weekends for most).

Oddly enough, I too seem to have learned that. I can now watch YouTube without endless buffering!

For this reason I find the Mediacom's 3 Mbps Launch/Intro service to be sufficient most of the time. Ever since I replaced my dying modem last year, my two twenty-something kids, who are always streaming something to their laptops, haven't been complaining to me about the speed. The 3 Mbps service seems more consistent than our previous 12 Mbps service had been.

ADDED: And for me, the issue for streaming isn't so much the bandwidth (although HD is nice, I don't need HD) as long as the viewing experience is uninterrupted. Even with two kids streaming, we stay under 80 GB a monh.
