Well - I also dropped Speakeasy/Megapath/Covad...

Being unemployed since Jan this year - I finally decided to get cable (since U-Verse if a few hundred feet away and I can't get it) - saving me about $30/mo for one year then I am guessing about $20 the next year (depends if they raise the internet rates).

I called and cancelled (apparently I have 2 account numbers) and neither was the one I wrote down. I could not log into my account online so I had to call. Told the person 3 times I wanted to cancel - I think it was the distraction of trying to find my account.

Got the cancellation email in about 11 minutes after I hung up and just got my last statement with the credits.

Am I the only one here still using Megapath after the buyout?!?!?

We have one client still with a backup DSL. We're getting that replaced now. Two clients still on hosted VoIP. Those will be off in the next year. Dealing with tech support is a nightmare anymore- there's absolutely no justification in 2013 for the premium cost of their circuits.

Probably - if it was not for being unemployed I would probably still have them as the service was very solid for me. Never had an issue with Tech Support really and probably only called them 3 times for tech support since 2002/03 (no way to complain about that).

It is expensive and that is a shame. I want to say the TOS still allows servers and sharing of the connection as long as the customer does not charge anyone. If so - they would be the only ISP I know of that allows those things on a residential service.

Well. I am obviously still there. Have gone through a lot of wasted time getting them to honor my Legacy account from Speakeasy, virtually same up as down, but aside from the cost, they're working well. And having gone through what I did to get them to honor what I had, I got the names and addresses of some very useful people within the hierarchy there. If I have further problems, which I hope that I don't, I will at least have a direction in which to go.

Age is a very high price to pay for my maturity. If I can't stay young, I can at least stay immature!

Comcast just bumped me from 27/7 to 50/10 today. No price increase: $110. I have clients paying almost double that for a Megapath DSL circuit in the 15/2 range.

In that we can still get what is actually the same up as down, my speed may be nowhere near that, but it is what we've had forever and serves us quite well. But, yes, it is horribly expensive. The only way I could do otherwise is go to cable, and I just like this better. Call me crazy...but.
