 | Internet drops and bad ping My internet used to be perfect with armstrong cable a few months ago but recently it started cutting out (only during online gaming) and having high (higher) ping speeds. Ive had a tech come out twice now and he says nothing is wrong even though i thought my power levels were kind of high.
When my internet started messing up my downstream power level was around 10.5 and my upstream was high 30s, which the tech said is fine. I currently have my internet hooked up to a dc9 tap with the tap leg going to my modem. That brough my downstream powel level to 3.0 to 4.5 and my upstream is locked in a 44.9 now. Also my signal to noise ratio is no lower than 38.
I guess my question is is there any reason why i cant finish an online game without my connection dropping? Hooking my modem to the dc tap helped lower the frequency of it occuring albeit it still occurs. Does having my modem on a dc9 tap negatively affect anything? The tech said it does although i dont really believe him.
Ask anything guys and i will answer. I just want my internet to be like it used to be.
Also my router is a belkin n600db and while online i have the xbox in dmz mode.
The modem itself is a motorola surfboard sb5101 |

 | One last comment. This all (at least it seems) to have started when i got a warning from armstrong that i was getting close to my bandwidth cap for one month. |

Re: Internet drops and bad ping I would disconnect all the other gear in your house such as tablets, other computers, etc and see if that helps out while you're gaming. Your ping times look as though either you're maxing out your individual return or Armstrong is maxing out their return. |
