Peformance in Towns County, Georgia?

Hi,

I am moving here in the near future and wonder if anyone in Towns County can comment on their current Windstream DSL performance. Thanks for any info!

It is generally pretty good, but goes down often. Help is through an 800 line and they have no clue! And as far as Towns County, Windstream is a monopoly, it is them or nothing! Unless you are using a satellite.

Thanks for the reply! So you get near your advertised speeds pretty consistently then? From what I've read here it seems like nearby Blairsville in Union Cty is still in the "oversold outage", so I'm hoping Towns maybe got fixed already.

PM sent to the OP.

@pal: Windstream isn't the only company who offers broadband in Towns County, just the only one that really advertises their service. Read my review of BRMEMC for more info on that.

Towns was just recently repaired. You should have no problems there. If you are concerned the Business Office should be able to arrange a trial period for you.

Thanks for this helpful information; I will check into being able to get a trial period after I move into the area. Are there any Towns County GA Windstream users here that can post some speedtests?

You really should look into BRMEMC as well as Windstream. The speeds they offer over fiber are worlds better than WS, and they have far more capacity to add subscribers without bogging their network down.

BRMEMC does have the ability to offer true fiber connectivity. However there subscriber base is much smaller, as well as the area they cover. So while it never hurts to explore your options keep in mind the possibility that if you are just out side their reach you may get charged to run the additional fiber.
