Bell actually came a knocking on my door last week. Wanting me to switch to their net.. and phone... I kept saying "No thanks.. not going to happen".. after they were going through their pricing with blah blah.. Told them I'm happy where I'm @. Teksavvy... The end |

They've come by 4 times now in the past year. Really annoying. |

I don't see the big negative here. This is obviously for students that move into apartments or residence for the school year. Bell is giving them a half decent deal for the 8 months they're there. |

I wouldn't think that'd be fair to students unless they negotiated the period from when they're in school until they graduate and leave that system. Once they're out in the world, I could see a whole different billing/contract lock in scenario though. |

But, you do need to pay modem rent fees except for the first month.(if I understood fine print correctly). Also, there is something fishy about the "less credits" parts. Why do they call discounts credits? |

I was talking to a Bell sales droid the other day at a local mall, and they were telling me that ANYONE can get the student discount - they don't check or require proof. |

That would explain all the people at the Bell store in White Oaks Mall in London. Also would explain why the Rogers rep across from Bell was standing outside looking rejected. *lol* |

Bell sends reps to my door every so often in Oakville, always around when I get home from work. VERY annoying.
They offer these crap plans and I turn them down, though once I turned down their internet package saying the pathetic cap was beyond useless the rep pulled out another sheet with "alternate" plans, it was less expensive and had about 3x the cap. I don't remember the specific numbers, it only lasted for 6 months and then I could just "call in and figure something out". They must think we are stupid.
The only thing I could think is that they try and screw you into those rip off plans and only pull out the better deal if you refuse. That is literally the definition of a scam.
Its got to the point where I open the door, sell a Bell shirt and say I'm not interested or "I'm on the phone" and close the door again. |

yeah I'm missing the OP's issue here. looks like a nice plan to me and to be honest better than tek and other 3rd parties could give you as a student. No dry loop fee as most students will have a cell not home phone and no hook up fee at least I don't think. |

guessing that is the sales guy number you state when you call in so he gets credit for the sale. I'll guess you have to state that number to sign up so bell can tell how well a sales person is doing and then look at what area he is in that day for stats. |

said by TOPDAWG:oh yeah good eye well then as a student this plan is forking great if you ask me. i think the only thing that 'sucks' is after 8 months you get the regular price, but i think most will likely cancel/move which is the point of this. sadly Bell will just start charging more if they keep it beyond the school year. |

said by TOPDAWG:oh yeah good eye well then as a student this plan is forking great if you ask me. Not really. Most students take more than 2 semesters of education. Where would they go after 8 months? It makes more sense to just go with one of the resellers from the start. |

Those who only study for 8 months are tiny percentage of all students. Most people go for full 2-3(college), 4+(university) years. I am pretty sure those are targeted at those who are planning to use their internet for more than 8 months. They lure you in with "low" prices and then charge you like crazy after 8 months. Also, when I was in school most people just rented apartments on the campus that 99.99% of the time included the fast internet connection + many campuses have wifi mesh networks. |

the ones living with their parents already have internet access tho. this is just a promo that's targeting university kids that live on their own for the 8 months.
Bell isn't the only one doing this, Rogers has the same 8 month promo, and they end in the summer when most are on summer vacation.
In Ottawa there used to be Edunet (maybe still around?) which was an organization that went around looking for a special university/college plan which only lasted 8 months, after that it went to the regular rate. |

These seem to be standard student plans, but the least 'nice' that I have seen...
Yes 8 months, September to May, 4 months off during the summmer, and then a new promo the next fall.
One year at a time... Bell won't know who is going to be a student next year, or the year after that |

|
to dmitry_tek
I think part of their strategy is to get anyone and everyone, student or not, to sign up for the special. The students leave after 8 months to go home, and the people who pretend to be students get a price increase after 8 months.
Not a bad marketing strategy. |

hmm 62 for 25/10 unlimted seems like a good price to me after your first 8 months. wait I see it now after the 8 months it goes to 100GB a month ok I see some of the BS now. Yeah as a student plan it's ok but if you just want the discounts as a normal user yeah it sucks. |

Don't forget that you also need to rent modem from them. |
|
|
to dmitry_tek
Looks like a great deal to me. Free installation, free modem rental.
Offers like this are a great place to be while we wait Wholesale DSL sorts out their forced modem purchase/rental bullshit, and for Cable to fix congestion issues.
Not to mention the Bell Direct Forum on DSLreports is pretty awesome, no intermediary to fix issues. |
