[Help] Stopping some potential nasty rust

Click for full size
Click for full size
After washing my 2002 Chevy Blazer (Yeah, I don't wash her often :P ) I noticed some nasty rust starting to show up. Any suggestions of purely stopping it? It doesn't have to look pretty at all, I just want to stop the rust from spreading.

[I know nothing about cars, body work, etc.]

Go to an auto paint store and pick up some rust neutralizer. It converts the rust to a primer.

MOst are some sort of phosphorus acid.

I picked ups some at an auto parts store and it did not work well. A buddy had some good stiff and he fixed a door ding on my Mustang. 15 years later and it still has not rusted.

Sounds like magical stuff. I'll do some research on it and post the results.

Thanks!

100% guaranteed way to stop that rust from spreading is to cut that channel out and weld in some good metal. Any body shop can do it, or even a hot-rod shop or fab shop. Shouldn't be too overly expensive if you just want clean metal welded in.

If you don't want to go that route then the rust neutralizer already mentioned is a decent choice.

That's what we used on the oil rigs.
