Lots of folks are broke

I'm sure a lot of loss is due to cord cutters but I'm thinking many of the lost subscribers just moved back in with mom and dad and now watch their tv for free.

I agree. The cost is so out of control with no public push back. Well, I think they get what they deserve if the industry starts to crumble. It will make them re-evaluate everything from alacarte to pricing to programming. And I read on here yesterday they want to phase out cable-cards to capture the revenue stream from dvr rentals. It's not like we, the public, are made of money.
