Disable WiFi on a TG862G/CT XFinity Wireless Gateway

Does anyone know if it is possible to entirely disable the wireless signals coming out of the TG862G/CT wireless gateway? I have a router I will continue using, and while I understand that I can separate channels, I'd like to disable it completely. According to Google searches it seems like calling Comcast Support is the only option, and they can connect to your device and disable it. This is not the case. Comcast support informed me that it can not be disabled.

Obviously any current gen hardware will have the option to disable a wireless radio.. it may even be an FCC regulation. So short of JTag hacking the board to gain greater access, or disconnecting the antennas (internal antennas) does anyone have any ideas of how I accomplish this?

Thanks for your help,
-pd

I assume you are using that gateway because you have Comcast phone?

Comcast may be able to supply you with an EMTA/bridging modem that has no wireless and has no router in it. Have you asked about that?

I would try calling Comcast again. You might state the question as I have my own router and would like your gateway to be put into "Bridge Mode" I do not have the TG862 gateway but an SMC that I had Comcast place into Bridge Mode which does seem to totally turnoff it's wifi (wifi light is out on the gateway and using a wifi locater does not show any unexpected wifi networks-inSSIDer)

Log into your Comcast account, get on Support Chat, and tell them to put your TG862G/CT in Bridge Mode. Once that is done simply use your own router for everything. Bridge Mode turns the TG862G/CT into a modem. Just did it last week, was on chat for less than 10 minutes.

Thanks a lot everyone, I'll check out getting them to put it into Bridge mode.

I didn't want to have to swap another box.. so yes that is an option, but it's quicker to exercise the expertise on DSLReports.

So had to call them for a password reset (for a friend that is) and they ended up flipping it into bridge mode. Now I get nothing on the 10.0.0.1 address, but I get the standard Arris pops on 192.168.100.1. However if I click into advanced I get a not_authorized message. Also, when I click on the XFinity tab I get the old 10.0.0.1 prompt that admin/password worked with.. but now that doesn't work either. It's frustrating to me that I didn't try the 192.168.100.1 before the bridge flip.. it may have allowed me in, and allowed me to change the password/settings. Better luck next time. If anyone knows what they changed the password to I'd love to poke around in there.

When all was said and done tho, it totally functions as a cable modem, router is back in, even got the old ip. All is well with the world. Thanks so much for the help guys.

I don't know if they still do this or not, but at one time Arris hardware had a password du jour and you needed a small app to generate them.

Interesting.. it would seem that might be the case. I'm not local to the unit so I can't test, but I will. Thanks for all the help everyone.

That doesn't work anymore. They blocked off access to the advanced settings page.
