[Channels] Re: New Channels coming in SEP WHat channel is UNiversal sports on?
EDIT: Nevermind. i see it's on 596. I'm on chat trying to get a cable card paired so I figure I would also have them mess around with these handful of channels that should be coming in with my Ultimate HD tier. |

Who on earth is going to watch WillowHD? Or even heard of it before a few days ago? I had in on last night out of curiosty for 5 minutes. That'll be it. I can't even understand whats going on. Might as well be a foreign language channel. So WillowHD we now get ... but no Cooking HD, Reelz HD, H2 HD, HLN HD, OWN HD, Stlye/Esquire HD, TVLAND HD, or Ovation HD. aaaargh. |

I can't pull in 1007, 591, 596, and 597. I spent a bunch of time in chat last night getting a cable card paired and then had them spend a few minutes with these channels. They told me they would supposedly be working today, but of course they aren't. |

You're ignoring that these adds have been to Ultimate HD or foreign language packages. Verizon is not going to add anything to MPEG-4 that isn't in Ultimate, because they will have to exchange more STB's. All of the channels you mentioned I think are in Extreme and lower. |
|
 | Greg, I think you may be onto something there....however, that logic would suggest that they add CBS Sports Network as well given that it's part of the Ultmate Package but only offered in miserable SD. According to the avsforum chart, Fios is the ONLY provider not offering that channel in HD. I have to believe that is going to change soon..... |

I believe that 1539 is Univision Deportes |

Concerning Willow HD being carried, it's either free or they are being paid to carry it. Certainly didn't come out of consumer demand. |

Greg:
As to your point about MPEG-4 and the boxes, I have Ultimate and those of us who pay for the full service also want the more popular HD service adds mentioned many times - so from my perspective, if this is the kind of additions Verizon is satisfied with making, then I need to consider downgrading or leaving.
Lets remember this HD addition with MPEG-4 was supposed to happen in April - its now 6 months later and if they haven't gotten the box situation resolved at this point, what the hell are they doing?
I mean - Willow HD? Who requested this? I keep hearing the Spanish additions are because Verizon is chasing that demographic - they need to keep their eye on the ball here and pay attention to us too! |

I think Verizon will be having this channel in Extreme soon, it was part of the latest deal to ofer it to more people. Just like they did with Tennis Channel. So that's maybe why no HD. |

Robert, the STB issue is not the only factor, there are also contract requirements as matcarl said. The "push" for MPEG-4 is that Verizon would move all the Ultimate-only they can to MPEG-4, allowing some room in QAM for MPEG-2 lower tier additions I suspect. But that they only seem to add MPEG-4 (TV Guide was an exception I think) pretty much proves my point. It's frustrating for sure, but the bean counters will not allow Verizon FIOS folks to swap out all the boxes. |

I don't think Willow is intended for the Spanish demographic. I googled it and it says cricket is most popular in Australia, India, Pakistan, and the West Indies. I know several Indian people that play it, though I don't know that they would actually watch it on TV. My guess is Verizon goes after these niche channels as a way to differentiate themselves from the competition and try to attract more customers with these offerings. |

what I find interesting is that TWC, Charter and other providers are offering these channels in most markets now a days and I am shocked that some charter markets are hitting 185 HD channels with every premium channel in HD imaginable almost but I could see Verizon doing more bandwidth efficient changes such as:
6 SD MPEG2 channels and 2 MPEG4 HD channels on a single QAM which would help with making bandwidth more available they could possibly push 3 MPEG 4 HD channels to a QAM too Also what about 2 MPEG 2 HD and 2 MPEG 4 HD channels to a QAM?
I have TWC and have 151 HD channels and we have a lot of premiums in HD along with most national except: BBC America HD Fuse HD QVC HD WGN America HD MTV2 HD TV Land HD
so yeah not the best HD lineup but not the worst either so all providers have their pros and cons. But at least Verizon is giving effort unlike some of the very small cable providers that only offer around 20-40 HD channels total. |

I have ExtremeHD in VHO7 and sometimes watch ESPN Spanish (1520) and UDeportes (1524) for certain soccer games if the english stations do not carry it. However looks like the new HD flavor (1537 and 1539) of these channels is UltimateHD only. Always thought the HD channel was available if SD is. |

There actually are a lot of cricket fans out there. I think it also a separate subscription. |

It's a paid subscription, just like FOX Soccer Plus. |
