Re: 45 meg tier available in CHICAGO...JUST ORDERED!

Nice pics - he let you tag along to the VRAD?

Nice line stats - how far are you from the VRAD?

Well, if u look at one of the photos, the line stats on his meter, the last line item says estimated distance from VRAD. It says 1.4-1.5kFt, which maybe means kilofoot?! that doesn't make sense really though because that's a mix of metric and western. According to the UV Realtime when I was just using the 3801, I am 1000ft. It is basically across the street and down a little.
And I invited myself to the VRAD. I know where mine was, so I camped out there after I got the call he was on his way. I just explained I wanted to see the process, and especially since I am taking the test tomorrow to be a U-Verse Tech anyway...he really didn't care ta all...

The wiring isn't supposed to be exposed like that, it's supposed to be crimped with the sheath around it.

The FIRST time U-Verse was installed, back in 2010, the tech that installed it pulled back the sheath that way. The took the unused pairs and twisted them around the base of the cable...
I mean I am getting amazing speeds and service, why fix something that ain't broke? I mean broke in the sense everything is working GREAT.

When my installation was installed the tech used all pre-made telephone cables. The only time he used bulk cable was to make the custom Ethernet runs to the two STBs (the DVR and the non-DVR) and from the NID to the place where the phone jacks are where the RG is. But, from the phone jacks to the RG are pre-made green telephone wires.

I actually have CAT5e from the NID to the RG. No jacks in between. Also to note is that my NID is inside.

What is the default IP address for the gateway? 192.168.1.254?

Can you post some screenshots of the gateway's configuration web page?

Yeah, that last bit of wiring to the RJ-14 jack is nasty. It def. should not look like that. I guarantee things would look even better for your gateway if it was done properly.

I was going to say the same thing about the shoddy termination on the DSL connection to the RG. My tech installed an RJ-14 female insert in my wiring panel and used the factory terminated green CAT5 with RJ-14 ends to connect my RG's DSL port to the home run going to the NID. That is the right way to do it. Avoid crimping and fashioning your own cables if you can. You have a much better chance of avoiding those "mysterious" intermittent issues. DSL signaling is highly sensitive to any nearby RF interference operating in the same frequency ranges. Anything you can do to avoid inducing interference on that wire is highly recommended.

I looked in my NID and I have a RJ-14 female plug where the bonded pair is connected on their "binding posts" or "screws". I have a RJ-25 cable that is factory terminated that I can connect between the NID and RG. The RJ-25 is the same size as the RJ-14 and RJ-11 plug, but has 6 connections instead of 4 on RJ-14. Would that work?

I had my install today and have had nothing but issues. The wiring in my basement was all incorrect. I don't think anything was wrong someone came three weeks ago and fixed my wiring. The wiring outside is also bad. Nothing but errors. I had the installer this morning. Then everything went down. Then another repair man. Now a line guy is working outside. The first installer didn't even know why he was at my home. He had no idea of the new Internet tier. I'm a little disappointed with everything.

My guy was nothing short of being amazing. Maybe because my setup was already setup correctly, but the tech was also a line tech who trains new techs, so he was all in the know. I apologize for AT&T and the guy who came to your place. Where do you live?

I'm in Orland Park. I've had Uverse since 2008 and had on and off issues, but this has by far been the worst. The line tech admitted he didn't know what was wrong he's been on the phone for an hour. The tech said this line issue has been present for a while. I had no idea.

In his defense some managers are anal about us ordering pre made cables when we have cat 5 in bulk on our truck, they want us to make all of the cables ourselves to save the company money. Some techs know how to but most do it poorly.

Damn, used to work in Orland Park...but that sucks. Not good when even the employees don't know about the annouced speed tier upgrades. Goes to show you that they don't understand the dynamics of a pair bonded install, each pair has it's own "signature", sure they might run alongside each other in a cable, but connections at pedestals, or at the crossbox, or even at the NID leave alot of possibilities. If ur original line had issues before, just image that and multiply by 2. 2 dirty lines and he doesn't know what to do with them. How far are you from the VRAD?

The company still hasn't officialy told us or gave us training on the power tier and the NVG589, just a series of internal memos which I'm sure only a handful of people actually read.

I'm not sure how far I am, but the line tech just finished. He fixed the line outside then got a signal that there was an issue inside as well. All is good now my connection hasn't gone out and I'm not seeing any more red lights blinking. I'm getting 43Mbps down and 5Mbps up, so I'm happy now!

Q:
Are pings better?
I rarely see under 50ms pings to anything.
My first hop is always 30-40ms.

Just wondering if the new gateway/cards/etc has improved in this area.

Look here at my testing history, specifically at the line item "line quality". Look at top and see my ping in the 30's, go down and you see my ping in the 50's-60's. Test history here:

I also have a realtime line monitor here:

I don't have an iNID. I have a standard NID, instead of being outside, it is inside in basement. AT&T doesn't use iNID anymore. They are using the Motorola NVG589 now. Since an iNID is used to pair bond, and is only installed for end users who have low sync rates and/or are over the distance limitations, the NVG589 now combines all of that for easier install and servicing.
Correct me if i'm wrong in what I just stated, but it is what I was told.

Can you post screenshots of the Interfaces page of the internal router web page? It would be interesting to see if the new NVG589 has much of the same usage tracking that the 2Wire devices have.
