Ads and Blocking

Here is What I don't understand.

If I never click on an ad how would they make money?
If I ignore, I'm blocking it in my mind, how's that different?

I love ad blockers, I have one setup in my Router and my PCs and I'm constantly adding to it...

Why, cause something worth buying doesn't need advertizing, it'll speak for itself.

Instead of trying to jam crap into my life, why not take time to build something that I'd want?

Advertizing is a giant waste of time and resources that could be used elsewhere, think of all the time and money that it takes up, imagine if those were engineering jobs, or Chemists, or Scientists?

but alas, greed seems to win every time, just look at our county(USA).

Because most companies are paying by impression not click. Thus if you use adblock it's recording the impression but it's not actually showing the ad. Doesn't matter if you ignore it or not. If you paid for an ad in the paper and it never showed and then the excuse was "well 99.9% would have ignored the ad anyway" would that be cool to you? Is that ok to charge advertising fees and yet not show the ad?
