You'll be thrilled Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in Justice League, then. I can't wait to see him bring gravitas to the Batman character the way he did with Daredevil and Gigli. Those Oscar worthy performances still titillate my brain to this day.

The Ben Affleck of today isn't the same Ben Affleck that was boinking Jennifer Lopez.

And Daredevil really wasn't that bad.

The director cut of Daredevil was actually enjoyable. The theatrical was an aberration.

And I find Affleck to be a terrible actor. Like Keanu Reaves his lack if ability to register emotions can come in handy sometimes but overall... meh.

As a director though, yeah.

You're right. A couple bad films means someone cannot act. Lets ignore the fact that Affleck himself has two Oscars. But let's talk careers. Sir Michael Caine has never done a bad film. Oh wait he has. Lets get more recent. Christoph Waltz is one of the more brilliant actors we've seen in ages. So he must be infallible. A couple Oscars. Great. Oh wait, never mind...Green Hornet.

Sorry, but your Affleck critique is about as solid as some of Helen Mirren's early roles.

An inability to register emotion? ... what was that about being a bad choice for Batman again?

However I thought it was interesting when I stumbled upon this tidbit that DC was moving it's superhero group, the Justice League of America to Canada....

Hmmm.

"Truth, Justice, and the Canadian Way."

But seriously folks....

Superman was created by a Canadian, the Daily Planet is the Toronto Star, and Superman's house clearly is in Canadian territory.

And as said previously, Clark Kent's personality is much more Canuck than Yank.

-----

Batman is Canadian as well.

It's never been established canon where Gotham City is. Some say New York, some say Chicago, or in southern NJ or even Delaware.

But I think that Gotham City is Toronto.

There never seems to be anything larger than Gotham City, it seems to be not a functioning part of any state or province, or larger country. That certainly is true of Toronto, right?

Also, Batman is called the Dark Knight. But the USA has no knights. Such titles of nobility [are] found in Canada, though.

-----

Aquaman is Canadian too.

He gets power from water, and that's what Canadian "hydro" is all about, yes?

-----

So congrats to the Justice League for going back home.

Cinematography, directing, lighting, sound, editing and special effects all have a hell of a lot to do with movies, and I still wouldn't cast Chris Nolan as Batman just because he can direct well.

Ben Affleck is a talented director who has a flare for storytelling (as evidence by his co-win with Matt Damon for Good Will Hunting, who is a much better actor btw) but he is a bad actor.

If I say he is a bad actor and you present two oscars that have nothing to do with acting as proof that is he in fact a good actor, you have not argued your position well. Name one single film in which Affleck's performance steals the show or is memorable even in the slightest.

What? Batman is WAY cooler than Superman. Plus he keeps kryptonite on hand

lol should we press the "Nerd Alert" button before we continue this conversation

Batman would never get close enough to Superman to use it

No but he could distract Superman while Green Arrow fires a kryptonite arrow at him.

I've always been a Superman fan... maybe its because he was the first superhero. He has all the powers and can do all sorts of cool shit. All the superhero's after him kind of had one superpower... many were derivatives of superan's powers.

alternately batman has no superpowers.. he's a richass vigalante it a bat custume... a pretty badass vigalante... but still.

Rob Ford - Super Mayor...LOL

I still enjoy the occassional graphic novel. I really like some of the works by Alan Moore. I loved The Watchmen, V For Vandetta, From Hell and the first two League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but the follow ups to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen were quite disappointing...

I used to have quite a collection of early Marvels. I had like issue 9 or so of Spiderman, the first appearance of the Green Goblin and like issue 25 up of the Fantastic Four. All stored in plastic comic book covers...

I had ALL of the Conan comics and Savage Sword of Conan magazines... But sold them all when I purchased my 60 Vette in 1983...

Canadian comic book writer/artist Jeff Lemire will be doing the writing of the Justice League in Canada.... Anyone read his Essex County Trilogy? It is supposed to be based around Essex County in Ontario, where he grew up....

The Essex County Trilogy is considered one of the top 5 Canadian novels of the decade and a must read....

All Superman needs to do is fly up into the sky and then blast Batman with heat vision.

If Superman even remotely sees Batman coming, then Batman is dead.

And Ironman with his armour would shrug off Supes heat vision....

The Hulk would pound the Man of Tomorrow so hard he would be in the land of tomorrow...

The Punisher is Marvel's answer to the vigilante style of the Cape Crusader....

I dunno, while the idea is certainly novel, I can't help bu think that DC is simply grasping at straws here to try and do something "different" whether or not it actually a good idea.

When the Justice League book was relaunched it had the "big 7" (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash and Cyborg) but the team composition changed in less than a year.

Then add "Justice League America" and "Justice League Dark" and you can see why as a comic book fan I'm mostly indifferent to fearful about how this will turn out.

As to the Supes / Bats feud? Gimmie Green Lantern any day, willpower conquers all

Bullshit. Tony Stark would let his ego get the best of him, whereas Bruce Wayne would keep his cool and get the job done.

It would be one hell of a fight though, hahaha

Stark's biggest battle hasn't been Dr Doom or the Mandarin...it's been his battle with alcoholism....

Neither does DC (as they demonstrate time & time again)

But in a nutshell the whole "multiple Earths" concept that DC ran with back in the day was a way to "bring back" heroes whose books had been cancelled en masse back in the day in answer to the "anti comic book" hysteria decades ago and later someone at National Periodicals (DC's original name back then) thought it was a good way to bring back" heroes whose titles had been cancelled.

The first stirrings of this can be seen in the classic story "The Flash of Two Worlds"

Note the above has been horribly simplified, I could go on for pages about this and how DC managed to screw themselves with this over & over again.

I wonder if Harper will be greeting them in the first issue or if they will be honoured at Air Canada Centre for the Leafs season opener?

Maybe Marcia will be interviewing one of them?

Perhaps a team member will develop a romance with Lanny Barbie?

Too many possibilities

Here is the complete Essex County Trilogy collected into a single trade paperback at Amazon.CA...

quote:
Where does a young boy turn when his whole world suddenly disappears? What turns two brothers from an unstoppable team into a pair of bitterly estranged loners? How does the simple-hearted care of one middle-aged nurse reveal the scars of an entire community, and can anything heal the wounds caused by a century of deception? Award-winning cartoonist Jeff Lemire pays tribute to his roots with Essex County, an award-winning trilogy of graphic novels set in an imaginary version of his hometown, the eccentric farming community of Essex County, Ontario, Canada. In Essex County, Lemire crafts an intimate study of one community through the years, and a tender meditation on family, memory, grief, secrets, and reconciliation. With the lush, expressive inking of a young artist at the height of his powers, Lemire draws us in and sets us free. This new edition collects the complete, critically-acclaimed trilogy (Tales from the Farm, Ghost Stories, and The Country Nurse) in one deluxe volume! Also included are over 40-pages of previously unpublished material, including two new stories.

This title has been voted by Canada Reads Top 10 title for the decade!
