Stargate Atlantis: Blu Ray Edition» www.amazon.com/gp/produc ··· 04WJT5H4All five seasons of Stargate Atlantis, restored for HDTV on Blu Ray. I'm watching season five right now and it looks quite good. The picture quality is decently upgraded. |

I would sell a testicle for a SG-1 bluray set.
Sadly it will never happen because the first few seasons were filmed on 16mm, then a few seasons were filmed on 35mm and finally HD cameras were used starting in season 8.
I was told by AV pros that while it would be no problem to put seasons 8-10 on bluray, 35mm is expensive to convert and 16mm is... impossible, apparently? Or so expensive it's not worth mentioning.
Anyway, it means were unlikely to ever see seasons 1-7 on bluray for SG-1.
SGA wasn't bad either, but I was so pissed they killed off Dr Weir, I never really forgave the writers. The actress was so pissed, too. |

They're doing it to Star Trek TNG. Why not SG1? |

I'm a big fan of hers, but please... the woman had 10 seasons on SG-1, killing Weir just so Tapping can keep working in Vancouver, only to dump SGA a year later to go work on the abysmal Sanctuary, was a slap to my nerdy fan face. Dr. Weir was an amazing character whom I totally believed could do what she did, and she had received proper introduction into the series (even though another actress played the character in the season 7 finale, I liked both). And then we got that doctor from Star Trek guy, who didn't hold a candle to Dr. Weir in terms of being interesting. Rant over. |

35mm is still higher quality the HD and even 4K hd. |

I said it before, and I'll say it again, They never should have cancelled SGA for SGU! SGU was like a wannabe Battlestar Galactica, that just fell seriously short. |

Yeah, that was bone-headed on many levels. Weir just fit in with the show and the other characters and Torri Higginson played the role very well. The hologram doctor from Voyager? If they brought him him to be an accountant or something it might have worked. |

Stargate has always kinda been the red headed stepchild of the TV scifi world. On the other hand it is also generally well accepted by ST and SW fans and not impacted by that scifi factional divide.(Personally I would take a ZPM powered Daedalus with beam weapons and a few Horizon platforms over the Enterprise anyway.) |

But would you take it over Galactica? |

The Galactica was a great ship, but it was the skill and determination of the crew that made it so hard to beat. The crew of the (Next Generation) Enterprise was just great at making shit up to get out of sticky situations. Techo-babble to the rescue. I guess it makes sense since their mission was one of exploration. Ships in the Stargate universe, like those in the BSG universe, were actual warships, and they just kicked ass. Give me an Aurora class ship crewed by Adama and his people, plus throw in Data for some last-minute techno-babble in case we need to kill some Borg. |

Disregarding the drones. The mere fact an aurora has shields means it could likely take on the entire Cylon fleet. I am guessing ancient shield tech would laugh off the puny Cylon nukes.
But here is one better! Crew of Galactica with Atlantis, a few thousand ZPMs and an absolute shit ton of drones..... |
