WINDmobile CEO eschews euphemisms - calls incumbents liars

The CEO of one of Canada’s three small wireless companies has jumped into the fray over Verizon’s possible entry into Canada, accusing the Big Three of running a “ridiculous” campaign of misinformation in order to protect themselves from competition.

In a rebuttal to the Big Three's claims that the rules for an upcoming spectrum auction are "unfair," Anthony Lacavera, the chief executive officer of Wind Mobile, noted in a blog post »windmobileblog.com/2013/08/time-···reality/ Tuesday that the Big Three were given their original wireless spectrum by the government for free. Lacavera then systematically set out to demolish many of the Big Three’s claims.

“In the early days of cellphones and wireless technology the government simply gave them bucketloads of Canadian spectrum for free,” Lacavera wrote.

He was evidently referring to the original 1985 allocation of the 800 mHz spectrum, which the federal government did indeed hand out to Rogers Cantel (now Rogers Wireless) and to Canada’s local phone companies, two of which are now Bell Mobility and Telus.

--------------

I had written to Tony long ago urging him to use exactly this argument in discussions with the Feds to help level the playing field for the existing new entrants. I've also posted about this here before »Re: Verizon to buy Wind Mobile ?

Hey, it needed to be said by somebody of his position and stature in the industry.

Good Show !

On a closely related tangent, he didn't perchance make mention of the high flammability of the big 3's execs' trousers, did he ?

Wind needs to take out advertisements to counter this... saying it on a blog means diddly, while the cartel ads keep running...

Let's see..... double page spread in the Globe & Mail each day has to run about $40-50k per day. Now add The Toronto Star, National Post, Montreal Gazette, Vancouver Sun, the Newfoundland & Labrador Daily Edge of the World, the Tuktoyuktuk Seafarer's Weekly and every paper in-between and it begins to add up for a company like Wind. Not so much for ROBELLU$.

Wind just can't spend that kind of dough.

Wait until we see what kind of dough that Verizon can spend, if/when they choose to !

THEN the shoe will be on the other foot !

They do own the telephone wires on which those trousers hang.

First and foremost, i suspect that the entire robellus misinformation campaign (aside from the content creation) were all Contra (barter in the media world) deals.

The Globe is 20% owned by BCE, and it played on many of the BCE owned media outlets.

Laclava should visit the "editorial boards" of all the papers to get his side of the story out, the same way the 3 CEO"S did.

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......
