New 'toolbar' here at dslr !

What's with this toolbar? I prefer the old way. I hate toolbars.
Dslr is starting to look 'junky' or whatever.
Please put it back the way it was before.
Just my 2cents.

So far - the tool bar is the only thing I don't care for - its placement is really odd to me....

I miss the "old" position as well...

I don't like the way the top toolbar follows me down the page. On a widescreen monitor, vertical space is already at a premium.

I find the left option to be a little better, but personally I just disabled it completely. All of the icons I used (which admittedly isn't many) are already available as text links on the side of the page so it was rather redundant.

Re: New 'toolbar' here at dslr !

You can turn it off, set to 'off'. If you don't like it.

The four "old" buttons are in "Your Links.." anyway, and always have been.

as I mentioned if you inspect the links under "your links" carefully you will find the four buttons are there but in text form.
if you like icons I suggest a new feature: minibar on, top (or left)

Except that with it set to off, the buttons don't seem to reappear where they were previously under the "off" or "old" setting. Unless I'm missing something, we now have to scroll all the way back to the top of a page to have links to anything? Previously the minibar was duplicated at the bottom of the page and made navigating to something else from far down a page much faster.

Then turn the minibar on.

Or become friendly with the "home" key on your keyboard

if you set minibar to "top" it is fixed to the top so no scrolling is required to use anything on it. if you don't like the strip you can choose left, then it is a subtle column on the left always there.

if neither suit pretend you came to the site today and these are the some of the many choices offered. Pick the one you find works best of least worst for you. How many user interface choices does Facebook offer? I am aiming for that goal one day. (one).

As I mentioned in the other general changes thread, if the minibar is turned on at either the top or left position, it reduces the amount of screen space available for posts and other information, where the off/old position did not. Since it seems I don't have much choice, I guess I'll get used to it eventually, I just don't understand the point of a change that doesn't seem to improve anything and makes the site more difficult to navigate.

Justin,
It's ugly. Placement options are even worse.
I just turned it off completely. (sad face)

I was shocked when the mini-bar moved but I'm liking it now when I scroll the page and it's still there (at the top). I use the toolbar frequently so that's nice. Just have to get used to it being where it is.

*sighs*...had to put it back the new way *frowns*
why didn't you do a poll from members if they wanted this change? I'm not a trouble-maker, but it would have been nice if asked if I wanted this change.
guess I'll just have to get used to it. 11yrs seeing it the old way...I'm not good with changes, especially as dslr is my homepage.

the link and location for accessing the favorites has changed several times over the years and always to much griping from members. of course after a few weeks everyone jsut gets used to it and thinks no more about it until the next change. give it time and you will not even notice it anymore.

As far as it taking up space, does 1/4" really affect your browser that much? if so set windows to auto hide the task bar and you gain more room back.

all that being said, no i don't like it either. But after a few hours i will "know" where it is and won't even have to think about it anymore.

true to all you've stated. 1/4" isn't much, but like I stated before, other than my normal IE setup, I have no use for toolbars...just thankful that dslr is the only site that has a toolbar, even a small one. *grins*

Thanks for the pointer in the right direction. Turned it off until there are more options for placement. I don't mind the bar at all, I just find it distracting.

The two items (the + and wrench) are the toolbar in question.

Re: New 'toolbar' here at dslr !

Yes, I agree with OP. The old position of minibar (in my case, on the "top") was way better for me too. Now I turned location of minibar "off" to get rid of the permanent bar on the top...

Actually I miss only 2 buttons there - Search (advanced search) and IM. But I guess, I'll find other ways to get to them.
