[Speed/Latency] DSL Slowly Lossing Speed

How do I get Verizon to acknowledge there is a problem and fix it. Their techs, on the phone and here in the field, tell me that the line is good. Is this their normal mode of operation? I've had very few problems with this line and don't have much documentation. This is what I have.

[Speed/Latency] Re: DSL Slowly Lossing Speed

i can clearly see the line has fallen victim to Verizon's line optimizer program. In a nutshell if this program catches the DS noise margin dipping below 10 DB too much the DS speed is capped at 1792 kbps or 1504 kbps. Note that these dips have occurred at times you did not check the interface. To overcome this you gotta get the DS noise margin up above 10 db or better and keep it there. This means pick up a phone push a button and listen for noise if there is noise check at the NID if still present its outside and verizons issue. Call voice repair report noise on the line. If NOT then its inside and you will have to start checking for loose jacks, corroded jacks, unplug other devices make sure none are creating noise, check / replace DSL filter(s) if needed.

Edited for typo

Thanks for your reply. You are correct, I do have noise on the outside line. I've been watching the SNR Downstream for 3 days and the signal goes from about 26dB to 4dB. It's not consistent, but slowly walks down, then jumps around in strength. As of right now it's at 19dB, and moving down. Tech was here Monday and said it was clear. Not true. How do I get them to fix this? Constant calls until it's fixed?

You could try these numbers:

1-800-483-7988, press 3 for customer relations. Tell them you need to escalate your unresolved issue to management. Make sure you tell them you have DSL issues and you need a DSL tech. Get your case # from them.

When you have an open case, you can contact 1-866-376-3216 [verizon high speed support executive appeals].

Thanks for the numbers. Will do. Really never had any problems, but man, the hoops you have to jump through. I'm getting to old to jump.

I just wanted to verify that my inside CAT 5e was OK. Just finished running a separate CAT 5e out the window the the NID. Unhooked everything and hooked direct to the feed. Guess what? Same issue.

I do believe that there is phone time to rack up.

Thanks again,
Mike

Actually, if you have noise, it's better to call POTs support.

It's the first thing that was done. Tech said the line was clear. Can't believe had told me an untruth. You can here the noise, it also drops out (no sound) and back in quickly with clicking and crackling. Modem is still retraining now and then. VOL told me that they are monitoring the line for 24-48 hours and will get back to me. Guess Tuesday at the earliest. If no joy, I will be escalating it.

Just noticed you're in Stewsville, spent some time there and in Maryland Line in my younger years.

Yeah Mike, we moved here 13 years ago. I like the area a lot, but it's building up a lot, getting rather crowded these days.

As long as you can sync at an 'acceptable' rate, VOL will most likely say everything is fine. The POTs guys should troubleshoot copper line issues that will cause noise. That should be fixed first.

It is a nice area. It was about 34-35 years ago that it was a stomping ground. Knew a lot of people back then, everyone is old now. You're right about being built-up. I live about 20 minutes from there in MD, been here 24 years.

As for my phone line, the ticket was closed without any communication from them. Escalated up the ladder, got a new ticket number. Kind of funny that the person I talked with was wondering where I got the number, and I told him it was a secret. He was nice and seems like maybe he can help. The problem is that my sync went from 2528 down to 1504. No reason that it can't be fixed. Tech coming out tomorrow. We'll see.

Thursday the Tech checked the line again. The numbers were good.
Still no joy.
I just changed to the old Westell 2200 and this is what I got.

Is it possible that the DSLAM has issues, it looks like it to me.
Also, how do I get them to fix this?
They keep closing my tickets, saying nothing is wrong.

I would imagine that the increase in speeds and a more stable connection overnight has happened thanks to you.
I thank you, I thank you.

Hope you are enjoying this cooler weather.

I would also love to know what the issue was, if you please.

Yes, I love this weather, I can't handle the heat very well anymore. I wasn't able to get online until just 10 mins before the end of my shift yesterday and I had five requests, so all I did was set your speed to a higher speed with fast path. I'll look closer at it on Monday.

The heat gets to me now also, go to bed and sweat at 70 degrees inside.

I want to thank you again, numbers look good. SNR Downstream is sitting at 14 every time I looked at it through the day. I'll take stable anytime. I can't figure why it was jumping around and loosing sync so much.

Well, its been a while since I added an update. Third tech found a bridge tap and fixed that, still was getting sync losses, and lots of them. Today Verizon finally moved my line to another DSLAM, said the other one was congested and that the port might be bad. Went from G.MDT to ADSL2+, not sure this will be better. So far so good. Fourth tech was here after the changeover and checked the line from the back of the modem out, and said the numbers were great. Replaced the modem, but doesn't seem to make a difference. Boy, what a five week ordeal. It did take presidential appeals to get this done. I have my fingers double crossed, in the hope this issue is fixed.

Still getting sync loss, 38 times since the move to a new DSLAM. SNR Downstream is sitting at 6 dBs, it was at 12 dBs this morning and 11 dBs all weekend. I don't know what's going on. Could it simply be a congestion issue, not sure. I've had calls from so many Verizon techs, and none of them seem to have a solution. I'm hoping that someone there has the solution. I was asked yesterday evening what I was going to do (WTF) and told him I would like to have this resolved. It's getting to the point that I feel there is a wish for me to cancel my DSL. I would, but, the only other option is SAT, been there, done that and not doing it again.

This really started in May, but has gotten worse with time.
Verizon, how about doing your own trouble shooting, undo the changes and fix it.
Not a very happy camper at this point in time.

Downstream sitting at 3 dBs, no re-syncs and no speed loss, yet. Just a matter of time before the connection is dead again.
