NOAA radio down

Wait it took them this long to figure out they had a interference issue? Or maybe something drifted out of spec and caused the drift into the USCG channels?

To clarify for those who didn't click the link, this is for the NY area.

I had an email from one of their techs before they finally put the public notice up. No explanation what the problem is exactly but if it was a transmitter spur or frequency drift I am sure they could have replaced the hardware by now as this has been going on since mid-July or so. Perhaps they are going to have to move to a new frequency and abandon 162.55. The only frequency that I do not get at some reception on is 162.525MHz. All the other frequencies have activity on them and these are ones I receive all the time so an NYC transmitter dropped onto one of these frequencies would most likely cause interference:

162.40 Meriden, CT
162.425 Coatesville, PA
162.45 Spring Lake, NJ
162.475 Riverhead, NY
162.50 Hardyston, NJ

If not 162.525 then 162.425 would be the next logical choice as it is the most distant.

The Coatesville, PA/Hibernia Park NWR transmitter is 10 miles from me, it's 3mi East of, but on the same "hill" as the 146.985 repeater in Parkesburg, PA.

That 2M repeater there gets hammered by interference from 2 additional repeaters on the same channel, one in Atlantic City, NJ and another way up in North in Rockaway, NJ.

Both being VHF-Hi band, and the propagation path similar, you should expect lots of interference, both ways.

It does very well for the distance at my location on Long Island. I have it on right now as I am writing this. KWO-35 was on again this afternoon and I thought "finally, they fixed it". Nope. It is off again and KHB-47 from New London is coming in. Back on the 16th it was WXL-40 from Harrisburg coming in on 162.55.

Earlier today WXM-95 from Towanda, PA on 162.525 was coming in. Back on the 19th KHC-49 from Norwich, NY was coming in on 162.525. Definitely some interesting propagation today. Must be the humidity and some enhanced tropospheric propagation. These were the conditions that made analog UHF-TV DX'ing fun!

this is odd, since the frequencies the coast guard uses is far away from the NOAA frequencies. »www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=mtvhf also, NOAA is a very important, life saving service, disabling that is very extreme.
