 | [DSL] internet drop when doing skype or streaming video It started right after I switched from ATT dsl to DSL extreme in April this year. The problem occurs frequently when playing on-line video game or using skype or streaming video. Once in a while the connection will drop for a second or two. It makes skype almost useless. I have checked my line SNR. It is well within the range. I also filed several tickets with support without luck. I thought I may have some luck here with so many helpful members.
BTW I have a 6M plan. The symptom seems to me that DSL Extreme is doing aggressive bandwidth shaping... Wondering if someone out there also encounters similar issue like this?

 | You are right.. In the last few days, we did not experience much issue (as we did not use the internet as much). We will try to recreate the scenario so that you can see the pattern starting tonight. |

 | look like the internet has been running well in the last few days. Please continue to monitor during the weekend as that is when the problem occurs most frequently. Thanks a lot for your help. |

 | I had this problem with DSLX for over 2 years, but I'm on Verizon lines not AT&T. DSLX was never able to get to the bottom of it and would constantly blame my router. So I recently switched to cable and have had no problems since, with the exact same router.
Basically, I had exactly what you described. Intermittent connection on the weekends, particularly late at night. 1-2 second drops which are disastrous for Skype calls and online gaming. However, their Tier 2 support was never open during the weekends, when the drops occurred most, and they would call me back on the weekdays reporting the line is fine. I would emphasize that the problem mainly occurred over the weekends, but DSLX was still never able to trace the root of the problem.
I hope you are able to find a solution through DSLX, but I was never able to. |
