Wyngs join:2010-02-20 Coos Bay, OR | Bandwidth usage [b] My internet has improved the last few weeks, but on the downside my bandwidth is definitely disappearing much faster then before. I used one token this year until this past two weeks, when I've used two. 5 MB disappeared today while doing emails and surfing - in about an hour. Nothing heavy - no videos. |

 | I've noticed this too. It's starting to become annoying. |

Wyngs, The thing is 5 MB is such a small amount. Yesterday I fired up a WinXP machine, it downloaded a small out of sync windows update. there also was an adobe air update. All in rather small but much depends a individual settings.
Are you still on a HN9000 ? What are you using for a desktop usage meter ? if on a 9000 I highly recommend hnFAP alert written by our own dbirman (Don Bradner)

It is a small amount, but my usage habits haven't changed. Used my 3rd token of the month yesterday.
I just use this. I bring it into my HOME page via iFRAME so I'm looking at it often....

I have noticed that I am getting my "up to" speed of 10 Mbps more often than I used to. The host average on testmy.net for HughesNet has also increased from 6 Mbps to 10 Mbps. I haven't noticed anything unusual with the usage meters however. I assume that you've seen JacksonTech's post about "phantom traffic" from Bittorent? But that was a lot more than 5 MB.
(Odd: when I started this post, I downloaded 12 MB on testmy.net and testmy.net reported a download speed on 10.1 Mbps with a maximum speed of 17.74 Mbps. I just ran the test again and I got an average speed of 0.587 Mbps with a maximum speed of 1.32 Mbps.) |

Wyngs, can you veryify that you are on a Non Gen4 ? If so, do download dbirdman,s meter Runs in the systray, shows remaining allowance in MBs at a glance, you con watch 3-4 Mb fall off. Takes no resources and has an alarm. Best of all, it was written by one of US, and its free |

I'm on the 9000, but I'm also happy without installing another bandwidth meter (grin) |
