 | Canon SX150 IS battery mod? Hi, I've got one of these and while the photo and video quality are great for the price it has one massive downside, it kills batteries crazy fast, and yeah I use Eneloops with it. Part of the problems is that the camera specs say it draws 3.15v while the AAs only put out 3v.
So what I'm wondering is can I use a pair of 1.5v D cells wired up to the contacts? Would D cells provide just more life or would they have a higher current that would damage the camera?
The camera has a small panel on the side of the battery compartment that can be removed to allow for an external battery. -- You think theres no games for Linux? »desura.com »gameolith.com »humblebundle.com »playdeb.net »ubuntuvibes.com

Reduce the LCD brightness as much as possible as well as the time it stays on after image acquisition. These two are two major factors in battery drain.
If you can rig the camera for an external source, then there is no reason why you couldn't use D cells. The camera will draw what it needs.

Battery life Approx.110 shots (with supplied batteries) Approx. 320 shots (with optional Canon NB-3AH batteries) Approx. 420 min. playback (with supplied batteries) Approx. 540 min. playback (with Canon NB-3AH batteries |

Thanks for the link, I didn't know there was an available AC adaptor kit for it. Though it likely wouldn't help today
I've done all that since the day I bought it as isn't my first digital camera.
The camera is more then large enough they could have gone for 4 AAs or a rechargeable, the available power even with a pair of 1.2v 2500mAh Eneloop XX AAs.
I always use burst mode photography which is very hard on the batteries, even harder is filming in 720p on this camera. Even harder then that is taking full res pics while doing 720p video...
I did a little more research by asking on one of those strange ultimate flashlight aficionado forums, learned more then I ever needed to know about batteries there, on my own about using the D cells and found that it would work, so I whipped up an adapter out of some speaker wire, an old remote control and some dead AAA batteries as spacers. It looks like something the FBI would detain you for, but it gets the job done.
D cells worked out great, but did get a bit hot by the end but I was able to handle filming the whole ceremony in 720p while taking around 120 pics, currently hooking up a fresh set for the reception.
It's digital, when I get the time I'll toss the pics that didn't come out or are unnecessary. -- You think theres no games for Linux? »desura.com »gameolith.com »humblebundle.com »playdeb.net »ubuntuvibes.com
