[CenturyTel] zyxel pk5001z firmware upgrade and Android 4.1.2
I recently had my old modem only device replace with the above zyxel modem to attempt to resolve a constantly deteriorating line speed issue. Good news is that it seems to have stabilized but only time will tell.
Now the interesting problem the new modem/router caused was with my android phone. It would no longer "authenticate" even with no security. A quick google indicated that many routers were having this issue with 4.1.2 (or vice versa) and the only hope was a firmware upgrade. Luckily there was for this router. I upgraded and now it authenticates with actual wireless security enabled. The new firmware is CZP002-4.3.009.16
I'm posting this in hopes that it may help others out there who may have been vexed by this issue.
Now if only I could get some of that speed increase I'm reading about here...
Re: [CenturyTel] zyxel pk5001z firmware upgrade and Android 4.1.
Thanks! CenturyLink replaced my Westell today, and suddenly none of my android devices could connect (although Windows PCs still could). The service tech kept insisting my local e-net switch was a problem, because the android stuff worked if I did not have any wired connections.
I had just about given up getting my android devices to connect when I saw your post ... and shifted my tests from android devices and wired network gear to the router itself.
It just didn't occur to me that they would give me a brand new router without the latest firmware (or at least tell me that I needed to update it asap).
Upgraded the firmware and everything is now working.
