Hey guys,

What speeds are you getting on this profile?

Thanks

Startuser

@start.ca
What are you getting on 45/10 when you do a speedtest?

53-54mbit/sec down, 10 mbit/sec up.

I was getting 53-54 mbit first couple of days, but, since last night i noticed the speed dropped actually.

I tried multiple servers, etc, most i can get it 47-48mbit.

We currently have it provisioned as 50/10, but it's still officially 45/10.

Yep, i understand, i am just wondering why i am not getting what i used to get and what others are getting.

Signals look fine, though:

Cable Signal Details
Forward Path:
Channel Frequency Power SNR BER Modulation
1 663.0 MHz 2.1 dBmV 39.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
2 615.0 MHz 3.4 dBmV 40.2 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
3 621.0 MHz 3.6 dBmV 40.2 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
4 633.0 MHz 2.7 dBmV 39.9 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
5 639.0 MHz 3.2 dBmV 40.1 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
6 645.0 MHz 3.1 dBmV 40.0 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
7 651.0 MHz 3.1 dBmV 39.8 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
8 657.0 MHz 2.6 dBmV 39.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
Return Path:
Channel ID Frequency Power Modulation
7 23.7 MHz 42.0 dBmV 64 QAM
5 31.3 MHz 42.0 dBmV 64 QAM
6 38.6 MHz 44.5 dBmV 64 QAM
0 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV QPSK

Weird ...

With the disappearance of speedboost we've more closely aligned the provisioned speeds with the advertised speeds on Plus packages.

Here is my modem stats as I am finding I no longer have the 52/10 I once had as I posted previously (around Aug 25, 2013):

Status Code: Operational
Software Version: STAC.02.50
Software Model: a81a
Bootloader: 2.3.1

Cable Signal Details
Forward Path:
Channel Frequency Power SNR BER Modulation
1 639.0 MHz 5.7 dBmV 40.6 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
2 615.0 MHz 4.9 dBmV 40.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
3 621.0 MHz 5.2 dBmV 40.4 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
4 633.0 MHz 5.6 dBmV 40.3 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
5 645.0 MHz 5.8 dBmV 40.4 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
6 651.0 MHz 5.6 dBmV 40.5 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
7 657.0 MHz 5.5 dBmV 40.2 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
8 663.0 MHz 5.7 dBmV 40.2 dB 0.000 % 256 QAM
Return Path:
Channel ID Frequency Power Modulation
1 38.6 MHz 40.0 dBmV 64 QAM
2 30.6 MHz 40.0 dBmV 64 QAM
3 23.7 MHz 37.5 dBmV 64 QAM
0 0.0 MHz 0.0 dBmV QPSK

Multiple speedtest servers show the same thing and Proof.ovh.ca also confirms that.

That is correct, the currently profiled speed on the backend is 50/10 - it used to be higher to compensate for speedboost, but with it gone we've adjusted the packages to more closely reflect the advertised packages, albeit still higher than what we advertise.

rocca,

are we going to see any profiles (any time soon) between 45 and 150?

Tnx

I don't think it's too likely, there isn't a lot of room between 45/10 for $69.95 and 150/10 for $89.95.

What caused the change on the backend. I was previously getting 52/10 and Proof.ovh.ca also confirmed that and my most recent test was from Aug 25. Is there also a chance we can go back to seeing the 52/10 that we were seeing before ?

I don't think speedboost has been completely eliminated as I remember before I switched from the Elite to the Pro I was getting roughly 187 from the 150/10 package.

I doubt speed boost is the reason here.

I believe ( i might be wrong ) that, start is close to their bw limits (uplinks), as many ppl signed up lately, so, maybe they are just "saving" some bandwidth. 5-8 mbit per customer, is a lot on 100-1000 customers ....

From 48 to 52 is only about a 4Mb difference which in turn translates to roughly 500Kbps per customer difference.

I was seeing more then 52, it was 53-54 for me, same as mlord said, so, it wasn't only 4mb difference for me (some guys), but, a little bit more.

I am going to see what Rogers say about speed boost in their forum.

Just out of curiosity, why is it such a huge deal for not getting over 52 on 45 connection? I mean, you are getting the advertised speed already then, why make a fuss? Is it because of speed boost? If that's the case and has been explained before that speed boost does no good on 45 connection!

I just do not see any logic behind inquring about speeds when you are already getting advertised speed. Now, if you were not then, I can understand. Just trying to understand the reason...!

No it isn't an issue of being close to a limit, rather just adjusting to be more closely aligned with what we advertise and at the same time remain cost sustainable.

It's not visible on Elite any more either, ie even without our profiling it tops out at 150 now. Looks like they changed things about a week ago.

Is that with Rogers as well or ATPIA only?

As far as I know Rogers too, or at least they'd have a lot of 'splaining to do to the Commission.

Costs aren't different enough than 150/10 to make it cheaper unfortunately.

Couldn't do 10/10 any cheaper than 25/10.

Not sure about that one since speed boost was never technically a feature for TPIA or part of a tariff, it was just enabled.
