Labor Day:Boston Wobblies Support Workers at Insomnia Cookie

»www.iww.org/content/bost ··· t-strike

From the Boston IWW
On August 22 at Harvard Square, Wobblies, students, radicals, community members, and workers from Insomnia Cookies hit the picket line hard. Roughly about 40 people came out to show solidarity with workers who are struggling for better pay, better working conditions, and respect.

Many passersby showed solidarity with the striking workers by offering kind words. Some even joined the picket line. When curious people found out about the disgustingly low wages, and the disrespect workers receive, they where appalled. We turned away many a customer at a time when the shop gets increased business from tourists and college students. Fast food employees across the nation are starting to resist their oppressive work situations. The staff at Insomnia Cookies has joined this common front that been developing against very exploitative corporate food chains. Wobblies are helping fast food workers to organize. We call on all workers to show solidarity with this struggle.

An Injury to One is an Injury to All !!!

The IWW(»legal-dictionary.thefree ··· Wobblies) has a very long history of failure and this will just extend it. Fast food workers can be replaced easily and cheaply and any striking workers can be replaced by low paid students and long term unemployed.

The effect of the strike: Insomnia Cookies franchise in Boston closed down for 3 hrs the 1st night, fired 4 workers, and has been open since then.

The same people that advocate 'market rate' labor and firing striking workers are often the same people complaining about the poor quality of service they get from these dirt cheap students and otherwise unemployed. Check the recent red room post re: McDonald's workers walking out... vaxvms' post $15/hr to do this? If you only pay $5/hr, that's exactly what you are going to get. You expect people to do the right thing for a company that treats them like dirt? Fear of getting fired from a bad job as motivation for good work is ridiculous.

Pay them Third World Wages but sell them cheaply made junk at full First world prices. Profit, Profit, Profit. Screw patriotism and long term thinking..... MONEY BABY. It's all about the $$$$$.... when the country crashes and burns, just export the wealth and move. Leave the plebians behind to die in the civil strife
