Re: [BC] Ping speed getting bad

haha novus may only be 5ms faster to most locations for you, but for anyone who isnt fortunate enough to have single line 50 or fiber 50 ( i highly doubt its anymore then 10% of telus service area) its alot more then 5ms, that 5ms increase could double or triple or maybe even more for some, i still be you can hit almost any pingtest.net server in NA and not go above 100ms, i have 4-8 servers i cant get below 100 on, i think i can gladly say my first statement about the only telus customers having better first hop times then me were single loop 50 and fiber customers, i guess ill probably be stuck with single loop 25 on telus for a while if i ever went back to them as i wouldnt be able to deal with increased ping just for more speed, but hopefully shaw just makes the 250 available in my area soon, and bumps my speeds to 100/10, probably becoming even more stable at the same time, but overall i like the idea of VDSL2 and GPON more then DOCSIS 3 because they are more consistent, for one day my shaw connection could get worse

Since you guys are on the topic of loop bonding latency, what is the average increase you will see going from single to bonded? I'm currently single line 25 thinking of going to bonded 50. I may not do it if the ping increases are too high though.

ping is not everything. I had LB50 and played online every day (NHL13) and it was as smooth as butter. There is no issue. my ping rate was around 54ms.

Perhaps you should explain why you think it wouldn't be needed?

You have two people playing a game over the internet... in anything other than a turn based game, large delays can cause problems.
Whether it's a sports game, or one of your precious FPS'... you wind up with the same problem.

@telus.net

Latency spikes have killed off on-line FPS games for me. 50 ms - 100 ms for latency I can deal with but constant spiking to almost 300 ms is crap. Thanks for nothing Telus! Down load speed is good for downloading files and such, no complaints there, but upload even though we get the 10 Mbps when we upload large files we never go past 75 to 100 Kbps., so what's the point in having more upload capacity?

@Post: So you haven't called tech support about the upload speeds?

75 to 100 Kbps for upload? No wonder why your ping is 300 ms, you're exceeding your upload speed. As nss_tech pointed out, call tech support and have it resolved.
