 | [HN7000S] DNS issues I'm noting a lot of DNS problems today. Seems to have started early this morning. ... Getting "DNS lookup error", and if I keep trying, site will load. ... Power cycled modem and have tried turbopage teardowns to no avail. At this time, after power cycling, system is still sitting on "Received First Heartbeat Message" after about three hours.
Anyone else on any of HughesNet's platforms having DNS problems? I will try to check back later for replies. This is my third attempt to post. ________________________________________

gwalkPremium join:2005-07-27 West Mich. | Yup, 91 W. here. DNS issues are very bad today. Turbopage teardowns don't seem to help much today.
Just another "Storm" on the Hughesnet horizon. Don't fall for the "Upgrade to Gen$4" and all will be right BS. Just wait it out. Have you looked to see if your transponder freq. has been changed ? |
|
 | No transponder change, everything is same. ... SHM monitor shows me being on Primary, with no secondary listed. ... Upgrade to Gen4 is impossible here, as I am in an area not covered. ... Perhaps due to holiday, someone's not minding the store. ... Speed is Great, 'if' I can get pages to load. ________________________________

said by wa5sox1:Getting "DNS lookup error" I had those annoying DNS lookup errors for a many years on my HN7000S. Reloading the page usually worked.
Perform a Google search for: (hughesnet OR hughes) DNS lookup error
The conclusion that I reached is that HughesNet is never going fix that problem.
I haven't had any DNS problems with Gen4 for 11 months now, so you might consider Gen4 if it is available to you. (I think that's their solution to the DNS problem.) |

And, once again, after five days of 'okay' performance, "DNS Lookup errors" are back. ... Same as last time. Turbopage teardowns do no good (again). ... Noticed on another forum that others are having problems. ... Also, in Diagnostics, I see this, as was the case last Monday when this was happening:
Pretty much red X's across the board in "Web Acceleration {N}" when trying to browse. When not trying to browse, all is green.
TPS (50x) Errors 24(36%) BAD

Here also.
Its just Hughesnet..... It is just worse today. They are most likely "tinkering".

I've had this problem all day. I didn't think that I was ever going to get this forum to load.

Yep, it's VERY VERY bad today. ... I would have thought it would clear up by now.

I'm still having problems here, perhaps a bit worse than yesterday. ... Has this cleared up for anyone else? ... I've got business to tend to, and this is embarrassing to have an internet connection like this. Can't do much of anything without 90%+ chance of a DNS problem. _________________________________ 93W (Galaxy 25), 1334 MHz |

gwalkPremium join:2005-07-27 West Mich. | It seems much better today here, HN7000, 91' W Have you tried a hard reboot of the modem ( remove AC power at wall) |
|
 | No better after power cycling the modem. ... As a matter of fact, worse than yesterday. ... All browsers, all computers, bypassing router, etc. ... Just plain bad. I can use Media Player and things stream just fine, but that does not involve the use of turbopage. ... If I keep clicking away, trying to load a page, it will load. If it contains pictures, usually a box with a red X in it. If I right click "show picture", it will eventually load. ... Plus, if I can get a speedtest to load, speed is fine. ... Everything in stats checks normal, and can force range to 512 4/5 so don't think the issue is on my end. This is totally frustrating. ... Still, in Diagnostics, red X's in "Web Acceleration (N), when attempting to browse. If I let system sit, not trying to browse, just streaming, all is green checkmarks in Diagnostics. ___________________________________ 93W, 1334 MHz, SOBI |

Have been over to another forum and there are quite a few saying that they are, like me, still having DNS problems. ... Calls to customer support and there is no "canned response" to the issue. ... I can't make it over to the community forum, but am wondering if anyone has brought it up over there. ... They are apparently aware of it, just wondering if they are trying to address the problem. _____________________________ 93W, 1334MHz, SOBI Plan |

WVmom21 1 day ago Frequent DNS lookup error today
Why am I getting DNS lookup errors today? It happens with almost every new page I try to open. Is anyone else having these problems. I have the HN7000 system. A previous case #: 37685536
Believe it or not they are going to do a site visit on this one. That is still far from a fix. The usual Hughes "support" is just about stringing the customer along rather than any real substance. It has to be on the Hughes end however because there are far too many reports. |
|
 | Hope I'm not speaking too soon, but the DNS problems disappeared sometime between the hours of 9-11PM EDST last night. ... Nice to have the internet back. ___________________________________ 93W, 1334 MHz, SOBI |

The 'DNS lookup errors' are back. Guess I spoke too soon. ... And this on the day when the county Emergency Operations Center wants me to keep them appriaised of weather concerns in my area (via internet of course). ... This is getting to be very disturbing. The EOC is quite surprised when I tell them of this off/on Hughes problem. __________________________

Everyone seems surprised with the reoccuring problems such as DNS issues. Hughes is not, I repeat not, a mainstream type of ISP. It is at best , and always will be a tinkerers type of connection. Its just the way of Hughesnet.
Grrrrrr. Tonight it was Failure to connect for several hours. What a system ! |

Honestly, I HATE the Hughes DNS services... I suggest setting your router to use an alternate DNS, like the Google DNS at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Never have had a DNS issue since changing to a third party DNS a few years ago. |

2 recommendations | Well, all I can say is that, in my 7 years with Hughes, there have been occasional times when 'DNS lookup errors' occurred, but they were quickly resolved. ... These current problems I've never seen before, where they last for days at a time. ... Yesterday was a nightmare. Our groups train hard to perform in all types of emergencies, and we had mountaintop repeaters linked up all over New Mexico into Colorado, lots of flooding. All important/critical info was done via email. All worked fine, with the only fly in the ointment being HughesNet. ... Hopefully someone at the NOC will feel the need to take a look under the hood, as it's affecting a great many people. ___________________________________ 93W (G25), 1334 MHz, SOBI |

gwalkPremium join:2005-07-27 West Mich. | I sure understand your frustration. I see three choices:
1. Try Corrosive's suggestion. 2. Post on the Hughes site (but be prepared of a lot of BS) 3. Try multiple turbo page teardowns and deal the best you can until other options present themselves.
As far has Hughes taking any positive action on upgrading or even admitting a problem with their DNS servers ..not likely. |
