[TiVo] 2 questions on tivo

Hi RCN'ers, could you help this noob with two questions?

1. Is there any way to get access to my tivo DVR on tivo.com? When I entered my tivo ID#, they identified it as an RCN tivo box and would not let me sign up. I have the ipad app, and frankly, its useless. Would like desktop access.

2. I dont understand how tivo picks channels to record programs. For instance, when I went to set a season pass to Ray Donovan, it is defaulting to SHO2. I guess I really don't care what channel it comes from so long as it records, but why wouldnt it default to the flagship SHO channel?

Thanks all.

1a- If the TiVo folks can't help get your TiVo signed in to tivo.com, there are RCN folks on here who can get it done. They will probably respond to your message here. It IS a holiday.

1b- Most users prefer the iPad app, and find it very useful

2- The first showing of Ray Donovan is on 9/7 at 8pm on SHO2. The first showing on SHO is on 9/8. It would appear that TiVo selects the first showing to record. This gives you the earliest opportunity to watch the recording.

1) have you tried www.tivo.com/rcn? if yes and still getting an error, send me the TSN and email address you are trying to associate it with when registering.

2) when you set up a season pass it confirms what channel you want to record it on.. if you start the season pass on SHO2 thats where it will record from, if I remember correctly..

Thank you for the post, but SHO flagship channel will first air the most recent episode, and not SHO2. The Season Pass manager is by default pushing me to SHO2 no matter what I do. I even go to the guide, select the 10pm airing on SHO, and try to start a season pass from this point. It STILL defaults to SHO2 and won't record that episode until 2 days later...

I called RCN and they did not have a fix. Sending a tech.

just to lend you some support so you don't think you're crazy, my tivo does the exact same thing when i set up season passes of SHO shows. i always have to make sure to select SHO as it defaults to SHO2.

i considered it another quirk of the tivo software, i'm not sure RCN can do anything about it.

Well I figured out my problem. Like Vinegar said, for whatever odd reason it defaults to SHO2. However my problem went beyond this.. Channel 720 was not included in my channel list.. It was "unchecked," along with all my HBO channels. For whatever reason, SHO2 and the other SHO channels were checked.

I still need to change the default from SHO2 to SHO, but at least SHO is now an option where it wasn't before!
