Download speed seems a little slower, but not anywhere near that. I'm on 45/4.

In McNicoll POI area.

(I know ATIPA goes to York Mills, but preexisting McNicoll POI.)

That's the unlimited policy kicking in, crazy busy "everyone home from the long-weekend and moved into new dorms before classes start in the morning" so it's prioritizing other connections who aren't in the unlimited pool who have done lots of downloading already today. It's a pretty unusually high jump tonight, but we have more capacity being added next Monday as well.

edit: If you move your bulk transfers into the 2-8am window, remember that doesn't count towards QoS calculations.

Looks like that i was actually right in the other thread, then.

Worst thing is that, latency sux right now.

Thanks for clearing this up.

Latency should remain good for real-time apps, ie VoIP, gaming, etc. I'm actually quite surprised the jump between a normal 'Sunday' and tonight - but suspect it'll be back to normal in about an hour or two.

Huge drop here in Ottawa, I'm on 35/3 unlimited.
Overall I've been happy with Start (signed up 3 weeks ago) but this is pretty bad. Going from 35 to 3 on a Start hosted speedtest is terrible. I'm on gigabit ethernet right to the modem:

Latency is pretty sporadic too to google.ca

Ping statistics for 173.194.43.119:
Packets: Sent = 367, Received = 362, Lost = 5 (1% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 8ms, Maximum = 264ms, Average = 34ms

I've been happy with Start and have recommended to friends, but if this is a regular occurrence I might need to take those recommendations back and consider even dropping tiers. No point of high speed unlimited if the throughput will be equal to the lower speed plans.

You are even getting much worst results then me.

My latency is not that bad, but, to be honest with you, i wanted to play some WoT now, and latency spikes to 200-300 ms, which makes the game unplayable.

It's an unusually busy night, and so far we've done a pretty good job at leaving the unlimited folk with full speeds even as they blasted through peak time non-stop. Ie, I don't think there has been a single night that unlimited people haven't got full bang. You can also help keep yourself out of the QoS calculations by scheduling your large downloads off-peak from 2am to 8am.

If you'd like to PM me your account # I'd be happy to take a look at how much you've downloaded today to verify that you're in that category.

I haven't tried games yet but watching my pings jump around makes me think latency will be an issue. I noticed the drop because of a multi-threaded ftp file transfer I was doing was only getting a total of ~500kilobytes/sec (8mbps) when normally that would be a total of ~3.2megabyte/sec

Games are prioritized differently. If you can pause your multi-threaded ftp file transfer for an hour or two, I think you'll find better results with that time frame.

Don't get me wrong, Start has done nothing but impress me in all aspects since I've used the service - posted here simply to bring to your attention =) I know that I've already done the 10gb/day usage before the QoS kicks in, just seems like today it's dropped significantly (ex:35 to 3). Dropping for 35 to 17.5 wouldn't be too bad, but having a 85% drop is pretty significant.

Understood, if you've done more than 30GB so far today that could also help influence it. But, sit tight an hour or two and I think you'll find things back to normal - and if you're able to schedule your heavy downloads off-peak instead of running them through peak, that will make a difference going forward as well. (as well as help to ensure that our $10 unlimited remains sustainable)

Is the QoS policy classing available? I read somewhere that after 10/gb per day it takes into affect, but if there more specifics than that? For example,
Class 1 is less than 10Gb, Class 2 more than 10Gb && less than 30Gb, Class 3 is more than 30Gb

150/10 here, only getting 20 down, ping is at 60. I have not experienced this before with Start (which is saying a lot, thanks Start!).

This is sort of amusing to me.

Just to clarify, is this supposed to be for everyone or just Rogers-Unlimited customers?

I am sure TSI and other ISPs are laughing at this now, especially to customers that left them for full speed at all the time.

I personally, don't mind this, right now, but, i do hope as everybody else that, this doesn't happen often (at least not this slow \ bad latency etc )

Just out of curiosity, can you define bad latency? The latency you showed from your test is not bad. If you are able to browse the internet, stream movies and play games without issues then, it isn't bad latency. If you were not able to do any of the above then, I can understand.

I already said enough about latency for the game i am playing, its all above this posts

When your latency spikes 200-300 then, maybe something else is going on in the background. If you are streaming movies at the same time then, it would reflect in your games!
