Mixing WPA and WEP in bridged network

My landlord offers internet to me through a WEP wifi network. They won't change to WPA for unknown reasons. Can I connect my TP-Link TL-wr702n router to their WEP network as a bridge and browse the internet securely from the new WPA network that my TP-Link will create? Will the connection through my WPA wifi to the internet be secure or does it get violated because it has to run through (via bridge) their possibly compromised WEP network?

It will be breached as soon as the (your) data gets handled by WEP.

Ideally, you would connect your router by cat5 to their router, thereby bypassing the WEP issue. Of course, this may or may not be possible...
