[Internet] Poor route to www.google.com

Internet works great for the most part, but everything google related takes forever. I took a trace and notice a huge hit on hop 8:

Traceroute to www.google.com (74.125.239.19), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
1 10.0.31.1 (10.0.31.1) 3.390 ms 0.787 ms 0.767 ms
2 cpe-76-95-176-1.socal.res.rr.com (76.95.176.1) 24.920 ms 29.965 ms 31.400 ms
3 tge1-2.anhmcapj-cer01.socal.rr.com (76.166.16.9) 22.845 ms 9.052 ms 9.650 ms
4 72.129.22.38 (72.129.22.38) 13.094 ms 12.619 ms 23.336 ms
5 agg27.lsancarc-ccr01.socal.rr.com (72.129.21.0) 17.372 ms 17.589 ms 30.070 ms
6 107.14.17.132 (107.14.17.132) 17.225 ms 15.845 ms 20.144 ms
7 66.109.9.24 (66.109.9.24) 12.963 ms 12.931 ms ae-0-0.pr0.lax10.tbone.rr.com (66.109.6.133) 13.192 ms
8 72.14.198.73 (72.14.198.73) 238.452 ms 174.160 ms 173.140 ms
9 216.239.46.40 (216.239.46.40) 16.055 ms 16.750 ms 69.488 ms
10 216.239.43.148 (216.239.43.148) 17.204 ms 15.410 ms 15.811 ms
11 lax04s09-in-f19.1e100.net (74.125.239.19) 14.346 ms 15.109 ms 16.036 ms

Any suggestions to getting this remedied?

Thanks!

Nothing to remedy. Your packets are getting to the lax google server in 15 ms.

Although you have odd spikes (3-4x normal times) in your own home network which may be causing slow downs through out the rest of the trace

Your trace is fine. Hop 8 isn't an issue because the latency returns to normal after. If the latency on later hops remained high, then it would be a problem.

It could be a DNS issue, or it could just be Google being slow.

Higher ms can also occur on routers that have ICMP Ping responses set to low priority...

Your TR to Google appears fine -- When I TR to Google my last hop is 45ms.
