Notification red envelope won't go away

For about the past week my red flashing notification envelope for IMs won't go away after I click on it and read the thread reply. This started happening after Justin's latest feature upgrade with multiple topics in that popup window. I can leave for a few days and the same notifications will still be flashing.

This is on up to date Chrome on Win7 x64. Not sure yet if it happens on other browsers.

If I recall correctly, that's a reappearance of an old problem that was discussed (and solved) a few years ago. I wish I could remember just how to correct it, but I cannot. I just remember it was something comparatively simple and easy. Maybe someone else will chime in on how that was solved. Did you try a search? I don't think it was that long ago.

I'm pretty sure I'd clicked on every link in the popdown window, trying to get it to go away. None of them worked.

My envelope icon has been flashing all day, for threads that haven't had posts since yesterday. But just now, I got a single notification for this thread reply, and it was the normal single one, which disappear after I clicked on the name of the reply -- just like the old days.

I'll report back when it happens again, seems to be sporadic over the past week or so.

as I mention if it is a *long* IM, you *must* click "see entire message" in order to see it, which takes you to a new page with the message in full.

Or you can just visit your IM inbox: /instant and see all your unread messages.

Okay, I see what you mean now. I'm talking about thread notifications, not normal IMs, so when I have 3 or 4 notifications they now get stacked into one (long) message where before I'd have the blinky envelope with (3) or (4) next to it, one for each topic reply. That new behavior of grouping notification is what's causing the "see entire message" link, which normally I never see.

yes they get stacked up while you are logged out, so that can make a message get "long". If you've never had long messages before it is understandable that it is confusing to have to fully open them.
