 | Wishing to establish Wifi Connection 2.44 miles away!! Hello Jedi Masters. I am new to the forums and so I humbly come here asking for your guidance. I have been given the task by my church to establish a Long Distance Wifi connection between the Reverend of my church Rev. M. Davis's apartment and her brother's house. Reverend Davis's brother wishes to share his internet with with her and is willing to pay for the all equipment necessary. I have been tasked to make this happen since I am the Church's Network Admin. My intent is to erect a 23ft 50mm galvonized pole as the antenna mast and sink it 3ft to get a height of 20ft. Then mount a TP-Link TL-WA7210N 150 Mbps Outdoor WAP to the pole and us a Tp-Link TL-ANT2424B 2.4GHz 24dBi Grid Parabolic Dish as the WAP's antenna orientate the dish for Horizontal Polarization. Now because the reverend of my church lives is an apartment complex I'm not allowed to erect a pole and dish and her apartment is on the second floor. So my intent to install a repeater to catch and boost the signal beaming into her apartment. The repeater would be a Tp-LinkTL-WA901ND 300mbps WAP configured as a repeater and the standard 3 dipole antennas of the repeater rated at 5dbi would be upgraded to 3 rated for 8dbi. So my Jedi Masters right now I am asking you all if I am even in the ball park with accomplishing this task. I was only given a $300.00 budget to make this happen so any guidance in this is greatly appreciated. |

2.4 GHz isn't going to work in a high noise environment with dozens of consumer wireless routers along the path. 5.8 GHz won't work because you don't have a clear line of sight with sufficient clearance. And then you have trees in the path. |

Not even close to happening especially with the $300 budget you're talking about.. You need a tower on both sides of the link, or one hell of a tall tower on one side for this to even begin to come into the realm of possibly happening for the reasons already listed..
Sorry to burst your bubble on this one, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen without a small pile of money being thrown at it... |

Thank you all for your replies this is the information that I needed to know if it was even possible. Because I help my church a lot they sometimes throw really crazy tasks to try and accomplish. |

the closest thing in your budget would have been this. »www.ccrane.com/antennas/wifi-ant···kit.aspx No where near the speeds you wanted and you can't have obstructions which i see on the map. |

For a long time a guy who sold usb yagi antenna's from china (I think) showed that you could use 24 dbi or later the 19 dbi (metal model) usb yagi to shoot a signal 10 miles away if both points were yagi.. he had photos like yours
But I have never done it myself..? even though I bought 3 of his yagi's.. |

Check out the brochure on the Ubiquiti website:
Link: »dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/nanobridg···_web.pdf
Can be purchased through CyberGuys.
Link to 5.8 GHz model: »www.cyberguys.com/product-detail···8&rH=299
Ubiquiti also offers a 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz system approved for unlicensed use in the United States. I would contact Ubiquiti for application information. Claim 12.4 Mile maximum range. |

None of the suggestions posted are relevant since the profile of the terrain clearly shows that it cannot be done on a $300.00 budget. -- Strange as it seems, no amount of learning can cure stupidity, and formal education positively fortifies it. -- Stephen Vizinczey |
