 | [Southeast] Upload speeds horrible Just spent some 'quality time' with a Manila rep on a Chat. Fruitless. She verified I had signal to my house and asked if my DSL light was on...... Well, yea, we're chatting, right??? I knew it would be downhill from there. hahaha. While I get REASONABLE 4mbps download speed with my 6.0 plan, my upload speeds NEVER get above 0.16mbps or 160 kbps. The spec is no less than 324 kbps from what she said. I have had problems for years with the repair guys knowing me quite well. The last guy replaced my outside box with the latest spec but no help. The time before that he gave me an industrial version Motorola modem/router combo to replace the 2Wire job that he called 'junk'. I had been through two of them with horrible dropped packets and unreliable VOIP. (Ooma telephone). My connection is for DSL ONLY and the wire runs directly from the new box to the Motorola modem. I have the repair guy coming Monday but what can he do really to help my upload speed. The Chat lady said that I would have to pay for a new modem, if that's the problem, since it's out of warranty. Doesn't ATT have an obligation to fix my system so I get the minimum specification for upload speed? I can disconnect all of the cat cables on the modem plus shut off wireless for the phones so that my laptop is the only thing on wireless and I still get 0.16 to 0.10 kbps. The same happens if I use a CAT cable to the modem. What could possibly be causing such slow speeds? Is there a setup in the modem to improve this? Could there be a virus or worm in the modem? The firewall is turned on. I also have the Windows 7 firewall turned on. I have read that both should be on in several places. I'm running Malwarebytes and Avast anti-virus. MS Defender is shut off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

 | Just for the heck of it, I used my cell phone as a portable hotspot just now, logged in, and ran the speedtest.net. I got 5.34 mbps download and 1.09mbps upload. That's going directly from my phone to my laptop, eliminating the entire dry loop, modem/router mess. |

Technically it would be impossible to pull 4mbs if you were only doing 160kbs up. That would only support about maybe 2mbs. --

 | I don't know about the technical part but that's what speedtest.net and whichvoip.com have shown repeatedly for several days about 30 times. ATT finally admitted that they test my line as poor quality. We'll see what they do about it. |
