 | [Southeast] Just thought I'd share a funny story. So I decide to hop on my computer yesterday morning around 8am and start doing a few things and I'm on the phone too.
A few minutes later my phone cuts out and my DSL goes down.
I managed to get a hold of a tech I know and he said to me that a semi veered off the road, ran into and completely took out a DSLAM and along with it like 500 feet of cable that was in the ground.
DSL and Phone service was out like 5 miles north of me and another 10 miles south, I guess they do segmented runs and don't have backup connections.
About 9 hours later phone and internet was back. Fun times and I wish I had a picture of the incident. |

yea, that is not some of the good ones, we had one that deposited a mazda miata (sp?) right through an RT.. yep the car was wearing the hardware! and kept on driving!
I said to one of the guys, "I didn't know remote terminal, was a common feature on newer cars... who knew?!?! "
the remote terminal field guys and the layer 3 NOC guys didn't just really consider me funny.
Another famous one if memory serves, was a truck deposited itself inside a unmanned C.O. one night. Went right through the outer wall. Missed the DSLAM, missed the phone switch, missed the batteries and everything else... but nailed the cable vault!
To top it all off... They don't know how he missed all that equipment but hit the vault at the end of the hall, nor do they know why he went upstairs, bought a sandwich out of the vending machine upstairs, a can of coke and chips, and fell asleep on the office break room couch upstairs. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois... YOU'RE FIRED!!
