Spin Off Wireless & Enterprise Units Then Go Bankrupt
They are not going to get away with selling off the worst areas in light of the bankruptcy's of both Fairpoint AND Hawaii Telecom (Verizon sold Hawaii off the same way they did northern New England). Frontier seems to be making a go of it so far.
Regulation sucks if you are Verizon.
The landline division is bleeding cash it makes no profit overall.
They can spin off their deregulated units together - Wireless and Enterprise (the long haul fiber and business group) then wait till their on life support and go bankrupt.
They won't sell it off, they will make a new company and give it way, not a thing the regulators can do about that, there is no enforcement mechanism to enforce what your suggesting. The regulators will have two choices, confiscate the spin off assets and make it Mass Bell or let the spin off double rates so they can stay in business
That would have to be approved by regulators also so that's not going to happen. Even a spin off of wireless and enterprise would be challenged in court but I think Verizon would win that because those businesses are not regulated.
