Thanks, I still don't like it and see no point (why do I care?).. How can I get rid of it?

17 not your lucky number ?

But seriously, it most recently used to be near the top right of the page.

I am use to PM coming up around there and it makes me confused..
I still find it useless and would love to know how to get rid of it.

It seems to be higher than where PM appeared. However, a page auto-update seems to move it a little low, though still above where PM notices appear.

It doesn't bother me, though moving it elsewhere would also be okay.

Not going to change. Grow to get used to it. It only appears on pages with inbound traffic anyway.

What's the point of it? I don't think we the users really need to see it. It's really annoying. I like all the improvements so far expect that.

You need to either view all of the threads (in) which you are following/posting, or click the star and go in and tell the system to stop following those threads.

Plus, it doesn't blink continuously. Only 3 times per page load.

Re: Something changed, and if it isn't a bug, I don't/do like it

I now need to press CTRL+F5 to see an updated list of topics. Using Firefox 23.0.1 on Windows 7. Pressing F5 or clicking the reload button makes the little icon spin for a second or so but otherwise does nothing.

Not a significant/urgent issue, obviously.

I'm not sure what's up with that but if you look at a forum that gets frequent updates, you will see that the forum auto-updates when someone posts to it, or adds new topic.

Irregardless of the automatically updating forums I did try F5 (not control F5) on Firefox 23.0.1, with the Network tab open and observed that it functions as you'd expect, it contacts the server, waits and receives the new page.

I did notice this. About 1/2 the time when I go back to the tab and look, it's updated automatically. The other half of the time it didn't auto-update and I need to CTRL+F5.

Thanks for the tip about the Network tab. I will use that next time I see the problem and hopefully it will point me in the right direction.

if the tab is hidden auto updates are disabled as that is a waste
nevertheless I don't know why or under what circumstances a single click "reload" would be ignored by Firefox, I will have to play around with it because it sounds fishy.

It happened again. I checked the Network tab and the Response was correct. Then I did View Source on the page, and it matched the Response.

The browser seems to be receiving correct data from the server, but not displaying it. I have never seen this before. I already disabled all my extensions except for Flash and Adobe Reader just to make sure they weren't causing the problem.

If it's only affecting me, just ignore it.

Do you mean you pressed F5 and are pretty sure the server was contacted, and pretty sure the server returned to the browser the updated page, but in the tab nothing changed, however in (say) another browser (or in another tab?), you'd see a fresher page?

I found the reason:
»bugzilla.mozilla.org/sho ··· id=46845

It is a firefox bug, if you input some stuff into a form and press reload, the form contents is preserved by firefox. This is not expected behaviour, and unfortunately it trips up the simplest way to detect that someone has pressed BACK and got a cached page, rather than loading a fresh page from the server.

Therefore I'll have to find a work around for firefox.

Amazingly the bug has a huge history and apparently still the firefox group wants to be out of step with other browsers. In no other browser can you input text and find it preserved (not the default values reinstated) when you press RELOAD to get a new page!

The behaviour to which I am accustomed is that I usually backspace after reading a thread, and as such have always EXPECTED to have to refresh the forum front page (in IE8), and I do so using either [F5] or the browser button bar icon.

This suits me fine.

But are we saying that refresh of forum front pages are sometimes now automatic ?
