[Fusion] Fusion speeds vs dsl

I was a happy customer for many years but finally switched away to cable when I grew tired of AT&T jacking up the rates on the phone line I kept solely for the DSL. Now I am thinking of coming back to your Fusion service and have a question about the speed. There prequalify tool is reporting 5mbps but I was getting more than this previously. I know this tool is just an estimate but is there any reason that my actual speeds would be worse than what I had before?

Quite possible that you were previously connected through a Remote Terminal, rather than the Central Office; all Fusion circuits are CO-only. If you want to send me an IM with some of your previous account info (need to sign up an account on BBR first, it's free), I'd be happy to see if I can determine which you were previously connected to.

Bear in mind that Fusion speeds from the prequal tool are a very broad 'up to' estimation of possible speed based on the looplength reported to us by AT&T's system - it's quite possible that your actual looplength is closer than what AT&T is reporting, or you've got above-average gauge cabling, and thus will be able to get over 5Mbps. Regardless of what the prequal test predicts, all Fusion circuits are always uncapped - so if AT&T's estimated looplength is totally off and you can get much higher speeds, you WILL get those speeds. You will get whatever speeds your line physically can handle, simple as that.
