 | [INTERNET] Placement of the Arris TG862, which is the best way? The Arris TG862 can be placed flat, on it's side or hanged on a wall. When the tech set up the internet he told me that to leave it flat because the wireless works the best that way and I would have speed and connection problems if I tried it any other way. Is this true?
I am limited on space and it would be great to be able to hang it on the wall or at least be able to stand it on it's side. I only use my wifi when I am going to be on my laptop or if I want to hook my Kobo Vox up to the internet, otherwise I just turn wifi off until I need it. Wifi is set on high for signal strength.
I live in a small, one bedroom apt (approx. 400 sq ft). I just need the wifi to reach the back bedroom (length of apt. approx. 38 feet) and the Arris modem/router location is approximately 12 feet in from the front of the apartment in the living room. Distance from the modem to back bedroom approx. 26 feet.
Have others that use the Arris TG862 have problems if they place it any other way than flat?
Thanks.
Jackorama.
PS: Asking this because I will have to reorganize my computer area and I want to make sure there is a chance that the tech was wrong before I start drilling holes in the wall, etc.

 | Re: [INTERNET] Placement of the Arris TG862, which is the best w When I was researching the ARRIS and Cisco wireless modems, I think I remember reading that if you live in a unit like a bungalow, it should be placed flat, however, if you have multiple stories, it's better on the side.
My suggestion is to try it on the side (even just where it is right now) and take a device to different areas and see how signal compares. |

 | Thanks Aaron. It makes sense now why the tech said that as I live in a two story building and the floor below me is rented by someone else. I will give it a try standing it on it's side when I find a place where it won't get accidentally knocked over. If I have no problems then I might try wall mounting it.
Thanks again. |
