Trackback IM's

Hey, what are these Hot Topic trackbacks and how can I get rid of them?

they aren't IMs for you, they are just a note that the particular page (forum topic) gets inbound traffic the icon leads to the page that shows where the traffic is coming from.

No you didn't enable it, you'll have to get used to seeing it up there eventually it'll just fade away and not bug your eyes.

Maybe it's just me, but why is there a need to display this information at all. Is the general membership that interested in the data? To what purpose? I can see staff or admins wanting to know that information, but should we, as members, care? It just seems to be a bit of unnecesary clutter in an already "busy" area of the page. It doesn't really bother me... I have grown to ignore it, just as Justin stated, but what is the purpose of displaying it at all?

Keep your eye on the ball, your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone, and your ear to the ground. Now, try to work in that position!!!

It only shows on forum topics that get inbound traffic.

Truthfully, I thought the data was interesting and could be useful, however like you guys I was startled by the change.

Would have made a lot of sense to have placed that traffic icon on the top far RIGHT corner. Each time my eye catches it on specific pages (as it's not always there) I think it's an IM or an instant message that I need to acknowledge.
