Re: [INTERNET] Cogeco Cable calls me .. but only a TEST???
Nope .. no money owed. IN fact I called them and they said that my payment should be showing up next week as fully paid since it takes time through banking. Also I don't fall for scams but this one was not typical of scams so .. curious. Never came across a call like this before.
I am actually wondering if it is a tactic used by debt collectors to see if you do actually ever answer your phone or are just ignoring them lol. But no I don't owe any money to Cogeco once this one goes through and when I called Cogeco directly through the number on my bill they had no problems with me.
The only money I owe anyone is from College before I ended up living on life sustaining therapy (meaning dialysis machine on which without I would have died). Paid off half my college loan in only 3 years and then got real sick. Didn't qualify for medical forgiveness ONLY because the government has this law that states "if you went to school on an OSAP loan between 1995 and 2000 you cannot qualify for bankruptcy (no matter how bad your health is) and cannot qualify for medical forgiveness unless you get sick within 7 months of finishing school."
I know it is a far stretch but if it wasn't Cogeco ... it is the only thing I can think of. I am currently unemployed and on disability where I get a max of $900 to live on every month.
If it was a scammer, I will be leary for sure but I am already pretty educated about scams and know what to watch out for. This one did not have any of the typical indicators of being a scam .. until I called back and it said it was a test.

Can't see it having to do with your College loan. OSAP is pretty good about giving you time to pay off the loan and will work with you, not against you as we have gone through the same thing with my husband's student loans (University and College) from way before 1995 and have paid them off.
Credit Agency representing Telus calls my cell all the time for someone who owned the number before me 8 years ago. I'm not with Telus and never have been. I keep telling them that person is no longer the owner of my cell number, but they keep calling and I now ignore their calls letting it go to voice mail. They try a lot of sneaky things to get me to call them, but I catch on to them. Like I am going to pay some person's, who I don't know, debt to them.
I would do what urbanriot says and see what prompt them to call you in the first place. Maybe, they are looking for someone who had Cogeco services before at where you are living now.
Hope you find out soon what it is all about. If anything, to just ease any anxiety you may have right now about it.
