 | VPN into home network with Ultra TV and other limitations? I am looking at getting the Ultra TV. My current network in my home has a home automation system, security camera DVR as well as a VOIP gizmo box. That means I need static IP's, port forwarding working as well as a VPN server as I log into my network when I am traveling. Currently I am using Tomato which has all this as well as QOS.
I would hate to lose these functions. What are my limitations going to be with the Ultra TV? |

|
 | May I ask how you have it setup? Is the router behind the Ultra TV server and DMZ to it? Just trying to understand how the Ultra TV internal modem and router fit into an existing router that needs port forwarding and VPN.
Thanks |

 | Is that using openvpn? Other vpn types might not work as well behind the NAT gateway. And do you use a dynamic dns service or just hope your IP doesn't change? |

I have a very similar setup with no issues. I've got a SonicWall sitting behind my UltraTV Gateway. Local IP of the sonicwall is in the DMZ of the gateway, and the sonicwall handles everything else from that point on. VPN in/out works fine, port forwarding is all done on the sonicwall with no issues. Like the other poster, my IP hasn't changed in forever either so I have no problem there. My network behind the sonicwall is also on diff ip scheme and subnet all together. The only thing that STILL doesn't work is my ATT Microcell... for some reason or another I can make and receive calls using it... but data just won't work. Arris knows about it and will hopefully fix it soon (but I imagine its low on their priority list) |

And another question someone might be able to answer. Can you tap off the cable coming into the house and get QAM channels when they install UltraTV? I am using SageTV with HD Homerun boxes and probably will keep it online till it dies for the main HDTV to complement UltraTV. |
