So, back on topic...2-0 eh? How about that? Bolland had a great game, and Phaneuf looks good out there. Paul Ranger looked out of place last night. I'm impressed with Troy Brodie. He works hard. |

If serious injury is the main concern... than I am more fearful of a player in front of the net getting a puck in the head from a fast, high shoot from the point... So why no lamenting for reducing the speed of the puck or it's hardness? |
|
shanerPremium join:2000-10-04 Calgary, AB | Ok...last time here on this subject.
Because there's other ways to get hurt nothing should ever be done over stuff that can be controlled? Yes, the puck is hard. Yes, the ice is hard. Can't control either. But, controls can be placed on fists hitting heads repeatedly.
Oh, vue, that is why helmets and visors are mandatory. I suppose in your world they shouldn't be, but they are.
Personally, I'd like to see hard shell elbow pads illegal. Make it hurt to throw an elbow. |

but fists hitting the head isn't what hurt Parros, nor Orr previously.
personally, i always thought the leather padded "inner helmet liner" was a good idea...allow players to wear them...if they got into a fight, they take the helmet off, but a padded inner "skullcap" remains on in case they hit their head on the ice (still wouldn't have helped Parros, but whatever)...it would look similar to a Rugby "helmet". -- People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Bolland looked great as the 2nd line centre...Kadri just couldn't get any space out there and wasn't winning any face offs...he did better on the 3rd line. -- People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

said by dirtyjeffer:hey Anav, go play college hockey (where fighting isn't allowed) or play over in the KHL (where fighting is rare)...when you come back, let me know your opinion then.
Pure deflection, cant face the truth. I don't need to go anywhere else. I can go watch other professional athletes including soccer and basketball to watch contact sports that do not tolerate fighting. Imagine playing the rest of the hockey game with four players vice five.
Someone already posted it, when hockey fans and players grow up, progress may occur. Of course the NHL will not ban it, they are revenue driven and they know their business better than anyone. Its like getting the politicians we deserve, we vote them in. Unless people stop going to and watching the games, it will continue to devolve based around the money tree and resist common sense and humane evolutionary changes.
As for dirty play, the earlier we start enforcing the rules by the time players get to the NHL it will be significantly reduced. One only has to look at the Matt Cookes of the world, active in the NHL after repeated offenses and that evil bastad that cold cocked Crosby and you know that the league is morally corrupt inside and out. -- Ain't nuthin but the blues! you do realize that soccer and basketball AREN'T contact sports, do you?...you might as well throw tennis and fishing in there.

Anyone who believes soccer or basketball are contact sports or can be compared to the speed and intensity of hockey really has no credibility to comment on our beloved sport...
Compare the fighting in the NHL to todays. Our present flavor of the NHL is much more tame when it comes to fighting today....
I'm NOT a fan of fighting in hockey. It often takes away from the flow of the game BUT I do realize it does serve a purpose that is beyond the entertainment aspect of the game. There is a reason why 98% of the NHLPA polled do not want to ban hockey and I think it has very little to do with entertainment....
It is often reported that many a major US network like NBC or Fox is often concerned about the fighting in hockey. A couple of reasons are probably, they tend to air their national broadcasts at the family hour (afternoon) and fighting adds time to their broadcasts which infringe into regular scheduled broadcasts... |

people who have played and coached in leagues where fighting is banned/uncommon have already said how it is...that is a fact...they are stating the facts of how the game is played, as they either played or coached in said leagues.

Nikolai Kulemin is out for a couple of weeks after blocking a Phaneuf shot in practice.

Reimer wasn't that bad...the team in front of him certainly didn't help.
Bernier came in, shut the door, and the team in front of him rallied to tie it and win it in the shootout. -- People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
