It's like a 1 month replay of the collapse against Boston.
Near the beginning of the season I said on here the Leafs would make the playoffs and go a long way into the playoffs. I really am amazed at how bad the Leafs have looked this past month. Can it really all be on Carlye's shoulders?
I know you guys like Reimer but the kid isn't consistent enough. He can look brilliant one game and look brutal the next game.

The players are at fault here, Carlye can only do so much with a team and if that team doesn't play the way the coach wants them to play then what else is there to do. We all know that the coach is the one who ends up always being blamed for a teams down fall but in this case IMO Carlye isn't the one to be blamed.
During the off season there will be changes and one of four people ( Carlye, Phenuf, Kadri or Reimer ) will not be with this team any more. Coaches always get blamed, Phenuf has been terrible, Kadri needs a new start with a new team, Reimer stays only if Carlye is gone.

I wouldn't trade a bucket of pucks for Phenuf...at least not at the money he's making! I agree, Kadri might fill the net playing for Boston or Pittsburgh. Reimer....I'm just not sure he's an NHL starter.
There's no way they get rid of Phaneuf. Simply because of the contract. Not just yet anyway. 2-3 years down the road, perhaps.
The other 3, fair game... it will be interesting if Kadri isnt traded, if they will give him a contract extension or ride it out. Remember his $6M/6Y demands in his little holdout in training camp. That aint happening, hehe...
I agree Phaneuf wont be easy to get rid of with his contract, but man the team needs to do something with him badly. Clarkson is another one the Leafs need to say goodbye to this guy is useless for the money the team is paying him.
about Kadri in Toronto Star. But this not new. They make these players so big when Leafs win 5-6 games in a row. And then take down when lose. Typical Toronto media.
Then theres Nazem Kadri, who sometimes makes you wonder and sometimes just blunders. He scored his 20th, an easy tip-in with the Jets goalie behind his own net, essentially passing the puck to the Leaf centre. Kadri fist-pumped like it was the greatest goal he ever scored. Maybe the greatest goal ever scored.
Some might applaud his youthful exuberance. More are waiting for him to grow up, start taking responsibility, start showing some smarts. He rarely gets the puck deep. Hed rather fool around with the puck at the blue line (risking the inevitable giveaway) to try to get a remote scoring chance than simply chip it forward to a winger, or to the corner and get some offensive zone time.
Certainly Ron Wilson tried to get Kadri to change. Certainly Randy Carlyle is trying to get him to change. Two veteran coaches cant get through to him. Is that the coaches fault?"
And where have you gone, David Clarkson? He was supposed to be a veteran leader who could help teach some of the young players to play the right way. His voice was supposed to be a loud, firm one in the locker room and his play an example to others. Now Carlyle barely trusts him. Whatever smarts Clarkson picked up in New Jersey, where he was a force of nature, stayed in New Jersey.
His minutes are down, his offence his down. Only his salary is up.
and this. "I dont think hes a Leafs fan, the rookie defenceman deadpanned."
really?
add And his story continues. No wonder Ducks traded him here. At least he has modelling career in future. "Maple Leafs' Joffrey Lupul out for the season" "Joffrey Lupul will undergo season-ending knee surgery."
Leafs pulled a Canucks, laid an egg in their elimination game against Tampa's backup goalie after Bishop went down in the first period with an injury, with both Detroit & Columbus winning, they are eliminated.
Maybe the Leafs will pull a Canucks again and fire some people tomorrow as well.
I just realized that i had my golfball Leafs avatar all season. Now its appropriate!
The accountants curse strikes again ! Stands full win or lose...it's more cost effective to field a mediocre team that doesn't make the playoffs than a high-priced team that does.
Dont worry Leaf Fans. There is always next year. Next year the rules are changing. The time or duration . will be 50 mts for leafs game and not 60 minutes. Then Leafs will always be on power-play for that 50 minutes. These changes will be made so leafs can make playoffs. So by next year all will be forgotten and leafs fans will be back at AIr Canada. Full house, making tons of money for MLSE. And may be the prices will also be more but Leaf fans dont care that. They will be there to support this team.

The salary cap for this season was $64.3M, and the Leafs spent to within $12k of it between salaries and cap relief due to LTIR. It was as high-priced at team as they could spend. They could *afford* more, but couldn't spend more.

i was about to post the same thing...not only that, but playoffs are extremely profitable for the franchise...AFAIK, players aren't paid for the playoffs, so all the money the team brings in during the playoffs is even higher margin.

Half the earnings from the first round of the playoffs goes to the league, and the other half goes to the teams. After the first round, the teams get all the money earned from tickets etc.

The Canucks learned from the best!
Linden is the new President of Hockey Operations. Class act that man. I kind of hope Pat Quinn will get an adviser role.
Yeah I don't get it... Similar to Linden in Vancouver... I don't see how that brings anything to the table, except PR.
At least Linden has a history here. What connection does Shanahan have with the Leafs? I realize he was born in a Toronto burb but once he left juniors he's actually spent most of his life away. He never played for the Leafs.
