1 edit | [Connectivity] Ping Spiking only using 50% - Allentown, PA Hello, Going to go ahead and describe my issue and hope that a rep can help figure this one out.
I play a MOBA called League of Legends, when I try to stream my gameplay to twitch.tv my ping spikes from 70-80ms (server in LA) to 180+, i'm subscribed to the 75mb down / 10mb up service, and i speedtest at close to what i'm supposed to get 99% of the time. The program i'm using to stream to twitch (OBS) has a bandwidth monitor that says i'm only using 4mb upload with spikes to 5, why is it that I spike like that when i'm only using half of my upload?

 | Re: [Connectivity] Ping Spiking like Crazy even when only using Forgot to mention, it does go back down, to regular, hangs there for a bit, and gameplay is smooth, then jumps up again and i get 2-3 second lag, up and down, up and down, making it very unplayable. |

Re: [Connectivity] Ping Spiking like Crazy even when only using I don't use Twitch.TV, but they mention that they have multiple "Ingest" servers.
»twitchstatus.com/
You may want to make sure that you have a local Ingest server selected. The West Coast tends to have a lot of traffic, so if you're uploading your Twitch stream to the West Coast and playing on a game server to the West Coast, you may get congestion.
I'm not saying that this will absolutely fix the issue, but it's worth a try. |

 | Re: [Connectivity] Ping Spiking like Crazy even when only using My stream doesn't lag at all, and i stream to the NY Server, i mean my ping to my ventrilo server when i'm streaming jumps up to over 180 and it's hosted in NY, and my game ping is over 200, but like i said, they drop back to normal for a bit, then shoot back up, and repeat the process until i stop streaming. But i noticed something, my ping randomly spikes when i'm not streaming too, i'll be just looking at my ventrilo window and my ping will randomly spike to 60+ and them back down to 19. |

| If you're getting random spikes without much network load, there's probably another issue that is being exasperated by higher loads.
Without digging into all of the other possibilities, the firs thing to check is your connection to your ISP.
do a "tracert youtube.com", or some other site, and take one of the addresses the come up in the resulting list, preferably the one closest to your in the order that they are listed. But don't use your router's IP address.
Then do a ping -t watch it for a bit and get a feel for what your ping is with no load. Then fire up some of your other services, like Vent or Twitch and see if it start jumping all over.
The idea is like this. Your Internet experience is only as good as your weakest link.
Other things to check for right away is your signal strength and error rates on your cable modem.
Good Luck. |
