Re: Office 2007 repeat today's 9/10/2013 updates?

That's true. There is no way to stop them, either, other than to turn off updates. Even notification only will have that shield show up in the tray. Then you have the red shield instead, but no nagging.

So, if auto updates is enabled, will these 3 be continually reinstalled?

That's what has happened twice so far on my three Vista HP boxes ...

In the meantime, users who want to temporarily fix the problems are recommended to uninstall the faulty updates and then hide them from the Windows Update section of the built-in Control Panel.

I'm just happy it's not just me. Still, you wouldn't think it would be that hard for MS to figure it out.

It's clearly a Quality Assurance Issue that MS has to push. Three botched updates in one go in totally unacceptable.

I don't hide updates until they are fixed either - if these were me, I would be livid

Ditto.
Glad I don't have any re-offers either.

Here (Holland) also. I've an old Windows XP-computer with Office 2000. But the KB2760411 and KB2760588 are installed over and over again.

Yeah, that's my XP Pro. SP3 setup too. Ignore the issue for now since MS knows about it.

mrsplants

@comcast.net
is it ok to install over and over?

mrsplants

@comcast.net
not sure about uninstalling since they've been installed twice so I hid them for now

So, to mitigate the vulnerability, this seems prudent. Install, then hide when re-offered.

Office updates fixed!

»blogs.technet.com/b/office_susta···ccm.aspx from »answers.microsoft.com/thread/ef2···3f7fee72 ...

I didn't have to download or do anything on three machines (64-bit W7 EE SP1, 64-bit Acer OEM Vista HPE SP2 (IE7), and Dell OEM XP Home SP3 (IE6)). It was done on MS' backend servers. Whew.

Re: New MS Office Updates to fix!

I confirm the issue gone here. I flushed C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ and re-did Windows Update "Check for updates", and it came back with the three that were persisting before, finally gone.

Not thrilled that it took them 72 hours to repair this - but fixed is fixed.

Re: Microsoft security bulletin for September 10 2013

I found that the updates could not be uninstalled on my XP Pro system because Windows could not find them when I clicked on remove in the Add or Remove panel. However, the full update packages that I downloaded reported that they were installed. It is kind of a catch-22 situation for me until MS fixes this. I simply turned off automatic updates.

It might be worth looking at the folder for software downloads mentioned above. I may do that on my system later on. I hate to flush my history, but if MS doesn't put out a patch to fix this, that may be necessary.

Emptying C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ is completely safe to do. Windows Update will repopulate it automatically. Just navigate there in an explorer window, Ctrl+A, and Shift+Del. (Make sure you're in the right place though.)

Since the shipment of the September 2013 Security Bulletin Release, we have received reports of updates being offered for installation multiple times, or certain cases where updates were not offered via Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).

We have investigated the issue, established the cause, and we have released new updates that will cease the unnecessary re-targeting of the updates or the correct offering of these updates.

Thanks for the info.

Just checked for updates on 3x boxes and the Office 2007 updates disappeared. I didn't need to uninstall/reinstall anything.
