Wifi adapter prabola

I'm just trying to build a cheap signal focusing antenna. I've seen the "Windsurfer" parabola, and I wanted to ask about the true parabola.

From my understanding, the reason the Windsurfer antenna works is because the measurements give a true parabola and focus point when assembled. Other variation like sheets of foil etc can actually make it worse, which I have experienced.

Google: Windsurfer wifi antenna

When assembling the Windsurfer, if it so closely calculated because of the short 2.4 wavelength that the center piece has to actually fit perfectly into the parabola? What I mean is that would you need to assemble it and them glue the center piece so that it completely touches all the way across? Or if you had some space between the cross section and the parabola, say 1/16" would that matter?

Also, I'd rather have a bi-quad antenna, like this ( »pics.rguk.eu/album/other/wifi/Ki···2_page=2 ) because it is sturdier and offers better focusing, but I don't want to build one.I just can't find one with good reviews, like on Amazon. I'd need it to come with a mounting clip for mounting on my laptop screen too, for example. (I'm not in a situation where I have my soldering iron and work bench currently.)
